Is there a difference between : last 3 years 1040 and W-2/1099 ?

1040 is the main tax document

W2 is the wage/tax paper you receive from your employer and attach to your taxes

1099 is an interest statement you receive showing how much you were paid for the year

When you send a photocopy of your tax return to the NVC, they want everything for that year...1040, W2, 1099, and all schedules and forms submitted with the original return.

That's why a simple tax transcript from the IRS is much easier!

Ok does that mean the joint sponsor have to meet the requirements himself ( with his household size ) to be able to be eligible as my joint sponsor?

Yes, it definitely does.

Yes, it definitely does.

I am sorry i am asking so much questions, my wife does not know about immigration and since she is still sick suffering with that baby in her belly, i make sure i have everything set. SO far, God is with me, and i am doing pretty good. EVen though i am not living in the US and does not know much about american culture and documents, by reading, i have known a few things. What if the joint sponsor just met the requirement for his own household, how will that person be considered eligible to sponsor me jointly with my wife?

As far as I understand, the joint sponsor must be the requirements for his household INCLUDING the immigrant. If they are not above the poverty guideline limit when including the immigrant in their household, then they don't qualify.

She won't make it with $26,000 and a household of 4.

EDIT: If your interview is after April 15th, you will have to submit taxes for 2011. If she's already filed for 2011, they might want that transcript even if your interview is before April 15th...not sure on that one.

What you'll have to send now is 2008, 2009 and 2010. I don't know when exactly they start requesting the previous year return, but it doesn't seem to be the case yet. However, the embassy might request it.

Remember, that until April 17th, NVC won't require 2011 taxes. Just 2010 (and 2008 and 2009 if you're sending 3 years) is necessary. So she doesn't need to rush if she doesn't want to.

If it's just a household of 3, then she's fine. But if her sister is a dependent, making the household size 4, then she is not making enough. So you're going to need a sponsor. And that sponsor, if unmarried and has no dependents, will have to make enough for a household of five, so above $33,000 a year. If the sponsor is married and/or has dependents, then that amount is gonna go up.

Wow, I am still waiting in the wings.Come on NVC..Where is my interview date

Remember, you're both from different countries, so the wait time is gonna vary. I believe there's a slight backlog at Nigeria, so you might be waiting a bit.

Really? The instructions make it seem like the joint (or substitute) sponsor needs to only be responsible for their own household and the immigrant. I'm not sure why they would require that the joint sponsor also take care of the USC and their dependents...

Doesn't matter for my situation, but just clarifying.

Oh great, as we are currently, at NVC stage, i will pray God that he has everything worked fast so that before april, we finish with interview. I would not like them to ask us tax 2011, because this january she just add her sister as dependent to earn more money in the tax return as her mother not working and will not fill tax. Now let's say for example we got an interview in around march 25th, do you think the embassy may request 2011 tax from us at the interview?

lol the household size was three early this january, but she wanted to earn more money in the tax return, she just add her sister as dependent which complicate our case.smh
