Guys, what are they exactly looking for in the blood test at the medical? I hate to have blood drawn, really, and I'd rather know what they intend to do with it...

They're testing for syphilis.

They're testing for syphilis.

That's it?? Syphilis but no AIDS? Seems strange... Syphilis almost disappeared from developped countries and it can be treated fairly easily anyway.

As far as I know (from NVC's website and CDC), all they're testing for is syphilis. But yeah, you would think they would test for more stuff other than that. But hey, don't complain :P

Hey!

I posted this on another thread but since this is the NVC Filers for January, I would appreciate your advice.

We received our case number yesterday (yeyyyyy!!!!), I found out when I called today. I called the operator at NVC to give them our emails, however, I didn't receive an IIN, should I specifically ask for it or will they send it to our emails along with the AOS Fee (not receiving DS2030 b/c we're doing it with a lawyer).

Lawyer is away until Feb. 1 so I was wandering if I could get the IIN number in advance by myself just as everyone else. (Besides, we've done most of the process by ourselves anyways).

Thank you!!! :-)

Yup, just call back to speak with an operator and ask for the IIN. But ask for the Invoice Identification Number, not IIN. We made those abbreviations here at VJ :P

You can ask the operator, that's how we got it. But then yeah, it will be mentioned on the AOS fee. You gave them both your emails, right?

I don't know who they send emails to when you have a lawyer though, I'm sure Saylin knows!

I would assume they send it to the lawyer, petitioner, and beneficiary.

Oh I'm not complaining: less tests means less blood which means a shorter procedure, all good news for me

I just think testing people from Western countries for a 19th century disease is kind of odd...

Our choice of agent still hasn't been accepted, and it's been a week now since my husband "signed" the DS-261 (no email about accepting it, no invoiced IV bill). Normal? Keep waiting? Or send them a redundant choice of agent email?

Also, I received an email last night that said they had received our AOS files...hopefully that means they were able to open them.

EDIT: Never mind, I just called the AVR and they said they received the choice of agent form yesterday...and allow 4-6 weeks to be billed. >.<

Monday was a holiday so it's only been 3 business days, I don't think you should worry yet.

Somehow each single day seems like too long to respond to an email. I mean, come on, computers are doing half the work for them in electronic processing! :P

I'm with you about less blood. That was my first blood test and it seemed like it was taking forever to get my blood. And I got all queasy. If they had to take anymore I probably would have passed out!

But yeah, I don't know why they're still testing for it. Maybe they do test for other stuff but they just don't say anything.

Received the bank letter, translated it, and got my AOS packet ready to go.

I will make some copies and then stop at the post office before work tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to getting this thing in the mail. It's about 150 pages total! Crazy!

I can't read your first sentence to the end, it makes me feel dizzy just to think about it.

I don't think they can run tests and not tell. At least for the medical in Paris, the blood test is made by a private lab that does regular medical tests, and I'm pretty sure they'd be shut down by the health agency if they were conducting tests without the patient's knowledge!

Great!! 150 pages? Wow! Ours was maybe 20...
