Congratulations!!!

OMG Carrie! I just saw your timeline! You finally have visa in hand! Abdel still has Simo on his yahoo messenger and I was telling him just this weekend that Simo still didn't have his visa. He couldn't believe it. They never talk - heck Abdel almost never even goes on messenger anymore unless I bug him to talk to his family.

I still think that your file was just at the bottom of some stupid pile and they finally just went through it. That was just so wrong of them to make you wait so long.

Congratulations !!!!:dance::dance: That's absolutely fantastic news !!! I am so happy for you both -- wishing you a joyous reunion very soon !

Does anyone know why sometimes they keep the passport and sometimes they don't?

Seems to be something the consulate does when they're pretty sure they'll be issuing a visa, even when waiting on some additional evidence or document before final approval, or when waiting on what they expect will be a "short" AR. (Of course to them, "short" could mean anything from 1 day to 3 months.)

They asked for my husband's passport after his interview, even though they wanted another police report before issuing his visa. It took another 6 weeks to get that processed, but the consulate told him the day of the interview that he passed and would get the visa as soon as they had that report.

I'm sure you're right. I know that Casa called Simo I think once or twice to bring his passport so he traveled 4 hours on the train, gave them his passport and they just gave it right back and said we'll call you when it's time. I don't get Casa. They gave my husband his passport with his 221g and he was called back a week later to bring his passport... weird!
