URGENT question regarding self-employed

Hi all,

It occurs to me that this is my last day of 2011! We haven't filed our paperwork yet, and as a self-employed person I have to show that I've filed taxes. I am hoping I won't be required to show that I've filed taxes for 2011 yet, since I won't be doing that until April 15th, and quite possibly filing an extension, in fact. Am I safe sending in the immigration forms without showing that I filed 2011 taxes yet, seeing as how they aren't due until at least April?

I hope that question makes sense, and I'm very hopeful that someone can answer today. I may just seek a December 31st postmark if necessary!

Just file the taxes in your usual manner. There is no need to rush, unless you think this year along with the last two will help your case. As you are self-employed, don't forget to include the last three years worth of tax returns, or transcripts.

Along the process, they may request a copy of your last return, especially if any interviews happen after you have filed your 2011 taxes.

Oh, thank you, and thanks to all who help other members here. It's a relief to know I won't have to rush to file taxes ahead of time and can get this done in a more careful timeframe.

Taxes aren't due yet so you are fine. If you end up with an interview after April 15th be prepared to bring a copy of your 2011 taxes or a copy of your extension letter.
