Validity of police record as part of DCF process

Hi everyone! I didn't realize that there was a Canada sub-forum, so I'm posting my question here following up on a suggestion from a thread that I started in the DCF forum.

It appears that my girlfriend and I might start the DCF process at the US Consulate in Seoul, South Korea. My girlfriend is the USC, and I am a Canadian who will start working in Seoul in September 2012. We are not yet married, but plan to do so.

One of the DCF requirements is to have a police report from Canada and Korea, and I am wondering if anyone has experience getting such a report from the police in Canada. I specifically have the following questions:

1. What is the process of doing this; can i walk into my local police station and ask them for this report?

2. If so, is there a validity period on it that I must abide by (i.e. can I get this report before i go to Korea)?

3. Finally, did it cost you anything to get it, and how long did it take you to get it?

Thanks in advance!

For Canada - getting it in person.

The price range seems around $40-$45, different provinces charge slightly differently.

It took about 30 mins to get it because the police station was pretty busy for me that day and i walked out with it in my hand same day.

Its only valid for 1 year for immigration purposes.
