How does someone come to live in the U.S.?

I am asking this because my wife, who is not from this country, has a nephew that is 19 years old and would like to come here to be with us. I am a USC and my wife has her green card but does not have a perm res yet. What would our nephew need to do or what would we need to do?

There is nothing you or she can do to help him.

He himself can look into becoming a student and going to the USA on a student visa.

If she has a GC she IS a legal permanent resident. I think you mean she has conditional permanent residency (2 year card).

As was stated he can apply for a student visa, work visa etc but there's not other way sorry.

The only way for him to come over as family is for your wife to become a US citizen, then petition for her brother/sister (the parent of the nephew), and once they are here, they can petition for their son. This would take many years.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Even if your wife becomes a U.S. citizen eventually, she would only be able to petition for an immediate relative, defined as a spouse, a child, or a parent. The only addition would be to petition for a sibling. However, since a sibling is not classified as an immediate relative, the waiting time is approaching insanity.

There is no way for anybody to petition for a nephew or niece or aunt or uncle.

The best way for him to get to the US at 19 is a student visa. Then he can study in the US.

STAGE 3 - Lifting Conditions. Filing (19 Dec 2007) to Approval (December 11 2008)

STAGE 4 - CITIZENSHIP (filing under 5-year rule - residency start date on green card Jan 11th, 2006)
