Hi all am a nigerian step child of an american citizen, i have using the nigerian portal but cannnot get much help so am here at the full house for general ideas. I ve gone for the first interview at the consulate here in nigeria n was given the 221g form, was asked to process the dna thing. Meanwhile my dad is a green card holder while my step mum is the petitioner. My dad has gone for the dna kit and gave the dhl tracking number which he was given by the lab in the us. Based on the information from dhl, the kit reached the embassy two days ago and i sent them a mail yesterday to know from them what is up. Was given an auto response immediately stating frequenly asked questions and answer. I was also told that i will get a specific response if the faqs does not address my case within three business days. Today is the second business day and nothing yet. I wanna know if anyone has knowledge generally about the time line and the next stage(s). Am really anxious cos on my interview day the CO just looked at my documents and requested for the dna and told me that when i get another interview i should come with proof that my dad's marriage to ma stepmum is not for immigration purpose only. Asked me to bring utility bills etc. Am just anxious abt how long this will all take. Pls ppl help a brother in this struggle.

If you couldn't get any help in the Nigeria portal then it's because no forum members who are currently active there have been through the same situation as you, so nobody can offer any useful advice. You're asking for specific experience with a relatively uncommon process at one specific consulate.

You said it's only been two days since the consulate received the DNA kit. I can say with absolute certainty that the consulate employees have not been sitting around with nothing to do while they were waiting for the DNA kit to arrive. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it takes a couple of weeks or more before they are ready for you to come in for the DNA collection. Please try to be patient and find some way to occupy your time. From what you said of the interview, it sounds like you have a lot more to worry about than the DNA collection. They apparently suspect that your dad married your step-mom in order to evade US immigration law, and they've put the burden of proving otherwise on your shoulders. I've never heard of a consulate doing this in an IR2 case before.

So tell me what u do know about ir2 cases. Maybe that will be helpful. Cos u have not added creatively to my situation.

I know that they are usually straightforward. If the IR1 has been approved then the IR2 is usually a slam dunk. When the immigrating parent is the father then paternity is sometimes an issue, as it was in your case. The issue often depends on whether the IR2 child (you) was born out of wedlock. DNA collection is sometimes requested, and each consulate has it's own timetable for handling this. It seems to take longer in high fraud countries, which unfortunately includes Nigeria. I can't offer any specific help with this because I don't know anyone who has gone through the DNA collection process in Lagos.

The situation with them suspecting your dad married your step-mom to evade immigration law is something I've simply never seen in an IR2 case. Your situation is not at all typical.
