My hubby always laughed at me for washing all the fruits before I ate them, even things like watermelons and oranges. Well, recently he told me that my "weird habit" was vindicated, apparently there were some contaminated rock melons (cantaloupes) where the bacteria was on the outside of the whole melon, when the consumers sliced into the melon, their knife moved the bacteria from the outside to the inside and they ended up getting sick. My response, "ha!"

I used to brush my teeth after breakfast, but my USC husband got me to break that habit, I also roll my socks differently now. Lol...

OMG! I do exactly the same thing!! (number 4)... that's gotta be a mexican thing then! lol... my hubby also finds that pretty weird

Yeah! All of my female cousins did it and I'm sure there's some Mexican component to it! When my hubby says I am insane, I usually tell him that a little extra hygiene never hurt anyone!

This I must say is a rather relaxing but funny forum. I am the foreigner here and my husband is the USC. For argument sake i will list my "seemingly odd things" here:

1. I say the word "boy" at the end of most of my sentences during a discussion.

2. I say "hey lets go "lime" rather than saying "hang out"

3. Breakfast for me would not be cereal. I need fruit, bread, sussages etc

4. I hate an electric stove. I prefer the gas range.

5. When preparing meals i dont use a cookbook. I bake bread, cakes etc from scratch. I refuse to purchase short crust pastry dough.

6. When preparing any meats i tend to properly season it. Not just sprinkle salt and black pepper on it.

7. There must be hot sauce better known as pepper sauce in my kitchen at all times. Tabasco will not work. I make my own with scotch bonic peppers. (hot)

8. When shopping I am drawn to the sale items from which i cannot take just a few but I am tempted to take the entire shelf of the bargain item.

9. If I hear an unusual sound outside I tend to pull the blinds on one side and peek. never for anyone to see me but enough to get a great view.

10. When entering an area with a few people I say Good morning etc.

11. I call adults by their last name with either Mr or Miss attached.

12. I got to iron my clothes before going into public with it. (even my jeans)

8. When shopping I am drawn to the sale items from which i cannot take just a few but I am tempted to take the entire shelf of the bargain item.
And what in the world is wrong with this? If the item is something that you'll use, whether soon or over time, it makes sense to stock up if it's on sale or closeout. Also, it can be much like a "treasure hunt" to dig through bargain-bins to see what may be lurking within, or to see what's on the back of the bargain shelf behind everything else.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

This thread is so full of win! Really cracked me up and made me remember to not take the little things my husband does so seriously.

1. My husband is virtually incapable of closing a cabinet or closet door after opening it. Drives me crazy!

2. Takes off his pants right after coming home most of the time. The man needs to be down to boxers all the time.

3. Will wear a pair of jeans to death before washing them, and to some extent a t-shirt as well. I think the re-wearing of clothes is maybe a European thing. I noticed people rewore clothes a lot more over there, and it's something I got comfortable with. I used to wash an item after only one wear even if it was still in perfect condition. Now I rewear things a few times before washing. But he takes it to an extreme. He'll wear the same pair of jeans for a couple weeks before changing to a different pair.

If I started naming off the crazy things I do it would go on forever. I'm kind of OCD and neurotic. I recently nearly had a meltdown at a restaurant because he wasn't sitting EXACTLY across from me in the booth...he was off to one side and it was driving me completely mental. I was practically about to have a panic attack and he could see it in my face. Yeah, I need :help:.

P.S. I measure pants by my neck too! I don't know who taught me that trick, but it is so handy! Also, we reuse towels too. I think it's kinda crazy to wash a towel after one use...I mean...you're clean when you use it!

I'm the USC petitioner.

Strange things my husband does:

Eats Vegemite...and likes it. (No offense meant to the Aussies out there, and anyway, Tim Tams make up for Vegemite in the grand scheme of things.)

Irons his clothes. I told him quite early on that, while I love him madly, I do not iron. He's cool with doing it himself. I know ironing is not strange in itself, but I don't think any of the men I know here in the US would iron clothes unless they were under duress.

On the phone, says 'See ya!' instead of 'goodbye' or 'bye.' So I say it now, too.

I made sure my husband knew this long before we got married but he still hounds me about it. :P I will iron his dress shirts if necessary.. He grew up with his mom ironing everything, including his undershirts and jeans :o

Something that I did that annoyed myself when I visited my wife in the States two years ago was I didn't really understand that when the girl at the check out counter at Target or Walmart or whatever asked me "how are you Sir?", they weren't really interested in an answer. In Sweden, they simply just say "Hello", they don't ask you how you are or if you're having a good day. Which makes more sense to me. Why ask something if you don't wanna know the answer? This is going to take some getting used to once I move over. lol

I grew up eating ketchup on pasta and now I sometimes eat ketchup on boxed mac and cheese but I never really heard of eating ketchup with pasta and meat sauce.. although I have made the Filipino version of spaghetti meat sauce and there is ketchup in that...

my husband sometimes dunks in pizza crusts in ketchup and I found that odd but I do that now sometimes too but only with frozen pizza, that needs all the help it can get :P

I also put ketchup on my scrambled eggs..

That white ranch/dressing.. I put it on most leftovers, and pizza. And spaghetti. :D

I work at a music store and have not once asked a customer, "how are you?", or my boss for that matter. Too me it's just the "polite" way of saying "wazzup". I'd much rather just get a smile and a "hi" rather than a question that prompts me from what my actual business or errand is. To me it's just impolite to ask if you don't care about the answer anyways. A few times when waltzing into a store soaked with snow/water after a 3 mile walk with my dog and and getting that question, I'd still say "Wonderful and freezing, and you?"

My husband is the USC. He has a thing/OCD about fixing things. Everything can and will be fixed. I've seen him repair stuff that cost him 10 cents to buy but 5 dollars to fix. He spent 2 hours fixing a measure tape while we were skyping in different countries. He has approx 15 measure tapes.

My fiancé is unusually paranoid about things falling and breaking. If I put my phone or iPod on my leg, he immediately places it on the table where it "can't fall." I think that is unusually paranoid about a lot of things, probably because of where he lives.

But he does a lot of very cute things, too. He has super curly hair and he always shakes it like a shaggy dog to make it curly; the way he says brand names like "Hyundai" and "Yamaha" is soooo wrong but he insists he is correct; before he turns on or off the light he says "ready? 1, 2, 3."
