If I don't know where something is in walmart, I go to the first person I see and ask because I know how hard it is to FIND employees in walmart and I don't want to be frustrated trying to find one later if I can't find my item.

Edit: Not just find employees but also ones that are intelligent so I also look for the first smart looking employee.

Me too, but over here the employee doesn't stand there and make sure you found what you were looking for, or help look for the proper size. I think it's the custom there. So I guess that's what he married me for

oh no.... I am in trouble...unsure.gif I am more and more like this. I am tired of going around and try to find something in a store and waste so much time, now I ask the staff so often... I know, I am getting lazy... I should grow out of that habit then...

We have nicer stores where the sales people are more helpful. Of course the prices are higher, but then maybe the quality is better too. I don't think you are lazy, I think you are accustomed to a different type of sales staff. I have run across really helpful people at "the big box stores", but mostly the employees feel they are underpaid and overworked.

That small talk stuff. When we lived in Minnesota a few years ago, it started bugging me that everyone always asked how you were and for some reason the instinct is always to just answer "fine, you?". Our neighbors of course always said the same thing and as I was walking to down the hall one day and one of the neighbors that I never talked to, just say "how are you" was walking towards me. Of course he said "How are you?" I stopped, looked him straight in the eyes and was totally honest "Actually not that great, I'm tired and worn out". He is facial expression was priceless. He just gave me an empty stare and then said "you know what? I'm not doing that well either".

After that he and I proceeded to just say hi and nice to see you when we met. No more of the asking without wanting to know :)

I did something similar when I visited my wife here in Pittsburgh back in July 2010. I had terrible heat rash on my legs and we went to (I think) Target to get something that would help, like ointment or whatever. The girl at the checkout asked me "How are you today, Sir?" I didn't understand that , the small talk, so I started talking about how badly my legs were itching. If you don't wanna know, don't ask, mkay? lol

I will agree I don't like when people ask how I am and I feel an obligation to answer.

HOWEVER, I will also say that I say the same damn thing! It's now become habit for me to just say 'hi, how are you?' but I don't really want an answer....

So now, when a cashier says 'hi how are you' i just instinctively say 'fine, thanks.'

I could be bawling while standing there and I would still say 'fine, thanks'

I now avoid telling cashiers how nice the weather is because 1. everybody already told them and 2. they just answer yeah but I'm stuck in here, and then I feel bad.

Im the foreigner in our relationship (brit!) and my fiancee (the american man!) does several weird things that we are coming to terms with lol

1) Never crosses his cutlery when hes finished eating. How does anyone knows if you are finished or not?! Every time we have finished our meal i'm like ok now what are you forgetting?? :bonk:

2) Thinks im weird for putting ketchup on my bacon/sausage rolls or sandwiches. Is this not the primary reason ketchup was invented?

3) Dishes up ice cream in the smallest most ridicuous little bowl you have ever seen. These are apparently ice cream bowls. Is it a bowl or is it actually some kind of toy bowl along with the smallest spoon man ever brought into existance? In the UK we dish up ice cream in a normal grown up bowl where you cat fit at least 2 scoops in and usually eat it with a table spoon.

4) Doesnt put milk in his tea.....I tell him he belongs in France with that weird habit. Have finally managed to convince him to start using milk but any more than a drop of milk in and he cant drink it. weirdo.

5) The idea of putting fried onions in a burger or hot dog is completely alien to him. Last month on our last visit while I was at work he asked me what I wanted for dinner. I dutifully replied oooo burgers with fried onions in please hunny. Came back my kitchen was covered in grease and a sink full of washing up as he proudly handed me a plate of some weird kind of doughy-onions in ring shapes. SO he thought by asking for fried onions I meant onion rings...mmm yum

6) Always complains about the toilets (or restrooms) in the UK are like "peeing in troughs". Hes not used to the whole one big urinal more like the smaller individual ones they are used to over there.

7) Never takes a bath only ever showers?!

8) Had never seen a fruit machine before I took him to a pub in Hampshire

9) Makes those "mmmm" "mm" "mmmmm" noises while he eats arghhhh

10) Always has multiple amount of sheets on the bed of different thickness and warmness and insists on them being tucked into the matress? In the Uk we only have an undersheet on the matress and a duvet.

11) Pronounces "Croissant" with a hard R sound rather than "Cwoissant" as it should actually be prounced. moron

12) After spending xmas with my family in England, we went back to Wales and went food shopping as i mentioned I wanted to buy some stuff for sandwiches. In the shop he was mumbling a few things about the bicket we were going to buy. I was like the what? He said you know the bickway you wanna get. I finally asked him to point out what it was he was trying to say. It was a BAGUETTE. Aww well done babe

13) Transferring money to someones bank account via your online banking is an unusual thing to him. He calls it "wiring" money.

14) Swimming in public lakes and rivers is a perfectly healthy thing to do :help:

Theres a couple of weird things there lol.

In regards to wiring money, we cannot transfer money from one bank to a different bank online.

The only physically way to do this is actually to have the bank do what IS called a "wire transfer"

We CAN transfer money between bank accounts at the same bank, though rules vary on if you can do it online vs if you have to call and my old bank even took it away and said you had to come in the branch (ridiculous).

Will bundle up in summer so the sun doesn't brown her any further. Smack me if I have the soles of my feet pointed towards the Buddha or alter with pics of her dead relatives. Tips excessively when we dine out(Never saw anyone tip in Vietnam).

It was invented so people could put it on pasta with meat sauce. Duh! ;)
