But I lovee those differences... We learn so much by being different and trying new things blush.gif

Yes!!! Both hubby and I love this sharing/learning thing we have going.

When I'm alone I eat at the computer....bad I know. But with hubby, family, friends, always together. Here in the USA many people eat in front of the TV. Sometimes I eat in front of the TV. Some families eat at the dinner table. In Kosovo my hubby eats in front of the TV but we eat together, using his coffee table as our table. His family eats at a dinner table. But then they have one and hubby doesn't. I'm curious to see which wins here...the dinner table or the TV. Whichever it is, it will be together. The breaking of the bread together, hubby breaks it and gives me some and he takes some. I love this time together! But no crumbs on the floor! It's bad luck to step on crumbs.

LOL!!!! Mine was too. But all 3 cats belong to my daughter. I was just babysitting them until she got back on her own. So I'm pet-free now. I'm like a pet-grandma. I can visit my daughters and enjoy their pets but I don't ever step in cat barf when I get up in the middle of the night

This is so nice! Such a lovely habbit!

Bread is actually something else we do differently. My fiancé eats eat at the begining of the meal, with butter. I eat it at the end of the meal (without butterno0pb.gif, butter is for the morning) to clear the sauce off my plate.

It is funny all the little things we so easily think are the same everywhere, and are actually different.headbonk.gif

Good luck in your visa journey!

Discussing with the hubby atm to try to figure out what he thought was weird about me in the beginning, and when we moved to the US the first time... Let's see what we can remember.

- I'm oblivious to people around me, don't say excuse me when passing people and what not. Getting better though...

- Not used to tipping. Took me awhile to realize that you're supposed to tip the hairdressers, I got many bad haircuts...

- I don't wash my hands as much as him by far

- Completely non-confrontational, I will not argue with sales people for example. If someone says no to my request I will say okay and walk away... If I get bad food at a restaurant I wont complain. Goes on, I just will not argue, regardless.

- Shoes off at the door regardless. He got used to that fast though, but has his "birkenstock" type shoes indoors

- Table manners, I will not tolerate talking with your mouth full or "cave manning" the fork. And for Gods sake close your mouth when you chew!!!

- Not talking to strangers unless I absolutely have to

- I want sauce with my food, eating a steak and fries without any kind of sauce is just weird! Ketchup does not qualify as sauce.

In general he just thought I was rude, and I couldn't understand what it was I was doing wrong. I also remember my first visit to Sears, we were looking at a bed and the sales person started talking about their financing offers. I got offended and thought she was saying we looked like we had no money. It took me some time to adjust to that kind of stuff..

 You sound like my husband and like 90% of the Danes I encounter. We had a bit of a situation when I started cooking for him and there was like a huge hunk of very rare meat, a little or no side and no sauce. He has grown to like rare steaks and less or no sauce on things.

Other weird things my spouse does:

- Thinks baconpostej on rugbrød counts as a sandwich and a meal.

- Sometimes runs out of a store or restaurant before I even have my coat on and still hasn't quite mastered the art of holding the door open

- Watches Vampire Diaries voluntarily.

- The slight suggestion of Sweden being superior or anything Swedish gets him all grumpy and bothered. I seriously tease him with it more than I should.

I so agree!! I definitly had a very cheap manicure once. I realized 15 minutes after I left there was no way it was that cheap and I should so definitly have tipped. I still feel bad about that..

And I really can't get used to small talk with waiters in restaurants and coffee shops. I barely can get used to the 'how are you' with staff in shops and restaurant. It would be considered kind of rude to ask that to total strangers in France....

Good luck in your visa journey!

Talking about speaking to strangers....when me and hubby shop I can't get used to the fact that he walks into a store and hardly looks around before asking a sales person to find something for him. It could be a watch, a shirt, something like that. He describes what he wants and then they start bringing out what they think he wants to buy. He tries to do that for me too but I would rather look on my own. I don't think that's going to work very well here at the local Walmart or Kmart.

That small talk stuff. When we lived in Minnesota a few years ago, it started bugging me that everyone always asked how you were and for some reason the instinct is always to just answer "fine, you?". Our neighbors of course always said the same thing and as I was walking to down the hall one day and one of the neighbors that I never talked to, just say "how are you" was walking towards me. Of course he said "How are you?" I stopped, looked him straight in the eyes and was totally honest "Actually not that great, I'm tired and worn out". He is facial expression was priceless. He just gave me an empty stare and then said "you know what? I'm not doing that well either".

After that he and I proceeded to just say hi and nice to see you when we met. No more of the asking without wanting to know :)

If I don't know where something is in walmart, I go to the first person I see and ask because I know how hard it is to FIND employees in walmart and I don't want to be frustrated trying to find one later if I can't find my item.

Edit: Not just find employees but also ones that are intelligent so I also look for the first smart looking employee.

Do they were signs? That would be pretty convinient laughing.gif

Now, seriously, it happened to me so many times that the staff in shops would look at me as if I were dumb just because I am not used to someting... Like, when they expect me to confirm every ingredient that is in the salad I ordered is ok with me. Or they ask me what bread I want for my sandwich. Or having to answer 5 questions to finally get a coffee (about the type of milk? seriously? I don't care if the 1cl of milk they put in my coffee is 1 or 2%...). I mean, they have to ask, I understand this, but when I don't get it immediatly I don't think I deserve a 'You are so dumb' look... I mean, by the way I talk, everybody nows I am not american... So yes, I have different habits, but no, I am not dumb.

So yes, you are definitly right. I should ask the first person smart and polite looking I see!
