there's like an inch missing between the door and the wall or next stall on each side! You can actually see the people standing beyond the toilet in the hall. I mean, I might be paranoid, but if I can see them they can see me right?

I know! That's so wrong. So incredibly wrong!

My wedding day - the best day of my life

I took my fiance (he's the USC) to a local minor league hockey game. He thought it was weird that we all sang during the national anthem. When I went to a minor league baseball game in the USA, I found it weird that the crowd didn't sing along to the national anthem! (I thought Americans were supposed to be the majorly patriotic ones!) Then again, I find most times the singer who is singing the American anthem sings it in a way that you can't really sing along to it.

Nobody can do a very good job singing the USA national anthem. Who can hit those high notes? We all sound like squealing brakes on a car.

After almost 3 months a few more funny things:

1. Was afraid to use more than one burner on the stove at a time for fear we would run out of gas. Explained it's piped into the house. She seemed worried about that.

2. Irons everything, I mean everything. I'll let the tee shirts go but doesn't need to iron my boxers.

3.Was afraid to use hot water in the shower. In her home country most hot water heaters are electric on demand and every year numbers of people are electrocuted by bad wiring. Also, no real need to use hot water in her home land!

4. Still won't let the shower run. On, off, wash, on, etc.

5. Speaks Thai to my (our) dog. I already speak English and Spanish to him so, he must really be confused!

6. Says "Thank you very much" to everybody, the market, laundry, 7/11, everybody. She is the most polite person I know!

Well it is definitely a cultural thing...I am USC and my husband is Applicant.

We both live in Lagos and i have seen some strange things he does in his country but I respect his culture. I also seen some strange things people do in Lagos as well.

Men tend to look at your ring finger before talking to you. My husband always get in a fight mode when men approach me.

My husband always calls my name when I am away from him too long. One time I was on the porch talking to a neighbor and my husband came running outside with a bat. I was like what the hell?

Eat mostly everything half done. Like for instance...the chicken is never fully cooked!

Do not was not wash his hands all the time! Argggggh!!! We have antibacterial soap dispenser...use it! Okay I am calm.

He gets upset when I do "boyish" things...for instance...climbing the tree! He thinks that unladylike and lesbian! SMH.

Eat everything with peppers!!!!

Sings off-key when his soccer team wins! LOL! He also gets mad at the tv when his soccer team lose!

My husband tried to tip a very small amount at a restaurant here in the US and I had a fit, he didn't realize that here they pay people less because the tips are supposed to make up the difference of their wage. When I was visiting him in Scotland I gave the waitress too high a tip and my father in law probably thought I was bonkers, but she was their cousin! I'm Italian-American you gotta treat family right. ^_^

LMAO the visual of someone peeking in and poppin' me a smile from the crack

I can look back on it now and laugh ;) But I once had a very unpleasant experience with that as well. I was walking around Times Square with friends and around two AM the men decided they were hungry so we headed to MacDonalds for a burger. As they were getting their orders I went upstairs to use the restroom. Again, with space missing between the door and the next stalls. I had three drunk idiots (tourists) come inside the ladies room and stick their faces to the crack and leer at me, yelling obscenities all the time. I stayed in that toilet for 30 minutes until one of the guys I was with downstairs got worried and came to see what was taking so long. Needless to say I was a nervous wreck :-)

Discussing with the hubby atm to try to figure out what he thought was weird about me in the beginning, and when we moved to the US the first time... Let's see what we can remember.

- I'm oblivious to people around me, don't say excuse me when passing people and what not. Getting better though...

- Not used to tipping. Took me awhile to realize that you're supposed to tip the hairdressers, I got many bad haircuts...

- I don't wash my hands as much as him by far

- Completely non-confrontational, I will not argue with sales people for example. If someone says no to my request I will say okay and walk away... If I get bad food at a restaurant I wont complain. Goes on, I just will not argue, regardless.

- Shoes off at the door regardless. He got used to that fast though, but has his "birkenstock" type shoes indoors

- Table manners, I will not tolerate talking with your mouth full or "cave manning" the fork. And for Gods sake close your mouth when you chew!!!

- Not talking to strangers unless I absolutely have to

- I want sauce with my food, eating a steak and fries without any kind of sauce is just weird! Ketchup does not qualify as sauce.

In general he just thought I was rude, and I couldn't understand what it was I was doing wrong. I also remember my first visit to Sears, we were looking at a bed and the sales person started talking about their financing offers. I got offended and thought she was saying we looked like we had no money. It took me some time to adjust to that kind of stuff..

My wedding day - the best day of my life

One more story I will share. We took a day trip to Chicago, I swear every homeless person she saw she would hand out money to.She even made me stop at one of the busiest intersections so she could put money in this wheel chair bound mans cup, needless to say cars a honking behind me. She calls this money "coffee money".

I love this story. Thank you for sharing. I think this is a shame that we are so accostumed to poverty in our street that we can walk right by it and pretend it doesn't exist because it is more comfortable.

My fiancé is the US citizen.

1) he washes dishes before putting it in the dishwasher

2) He won't ever be late anywhere. In fact, he is always early, even when he knows very well everyone else is gonna be late

3) He does'nt care if he doesn't eat lunch

4) He think less than 70 degrees is an acceptable temperature for a house

I on the other hand...

1) Well... I don't do this! If there is one thing I'll admit I really try to change about my fiancé, this is this one ... Even though when I am with him, he is the one actually changing me... How many time I caught myself washing dishes before putting it in the dish washer...! arg!

2) I consider it is being polite to be 5 to 15 minutes late when invited for dinner to someone place. It gives time for the host to be ready even if he/she was running late.

3) Can't stand not to have a proper lunch, or dinner, unless I am very sick. When I miss a meal, I eat more for my 3 next meals pretexing I missed a meal

4) I complain all the time about air conditionning, I think it gets me sick. But I also complain when it is very hot in summer in France, and we don't have air conditionning

5) I use the word 'indeed' frequently. This is very strange to my fiancé, he says nobody uses that word

6) I never eat cheese as an apetizer, for me it goes after the meal and before desert

7) I eat yogurts with just sugar, after most of my meals

8) I think having a meal alone is a social failure, unless you're home, and alone. I hate eating alone. My fiancé doesn't get it, this is fine for him if we eat separatly and if we don't eat the same thing... but he makes efforts for me, which is so nice of him!

And I am sure there are many more that I can't think of right now. But I lovee those differences... We learn so much by being different and trying new things blush.gif

Good luck in your visa journey!

I HATE eating alone too!

Unless I mean I'm living alone, then that's fine.

But when I cook dinner for my husband, and he just lets it sit on the table while he does something else, it drives me NUTS!

Seriously, I'm sitting on the couch, he's next to me on the computer, and the difference is just him actually eating what's on the plate, but when he doesn't, I feel like I wasted all of my time cooking and he's letting the goodness just fly away. BAH
