Not long ago, I notified Admiral Ewok about this, and he said that it was worth looking into.

I hope it can be fixed. For those of us actually going through Armenia, it's confusing to think there are all these fellow VJ-ers out there, only to be let down when we realize it's the default. :)

OP,

You got PLAYED!. She took you down (for all she could get outta you). Meanwhile, the whole time she had her real man who she intended to marry. Once you wired her money, she made you for an easy mark and took you down. Then she got her family in on the dumb gringo who sends free money.

There is nothing you can do to her chances of getting a visa or a GC. She did nothing wrong (in the eyes of USCIS). Don't waste any more of your time on this. Learn and move on. I know it's hard, but she won.

And the chance of getting any money back from her is about as good as getting any money from a Nigerian 419 scammer. Have you sent any money to an African prince lately to help him transfer $32 million dollars. You are probably still waiting for your cut.

Not that it'll be any comfort to you, but you weren't the first and you won't be the last American man (looking for a wife) to be played by a international woman.

I really think he has got the message and repeating it time after time does not help the issue.

No harm in writing a letter, making a phone call, as long as there is no expectation of anything much happen.

He has obviously lost out financially and other wise, I can not imagine there are many people who have not been taken advantage of one way or another.

I feel really sorry for the guy in Florida.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I wonder how many of the posters here would just lay down, relax and not care if someone defrauded them of several thousand dollars, as the OP is describing here of his rouge Colombian girl. Let's be honest. EVERYONE would pick up the phone and contact the authorities if they were robbed of many thousands of dollars.....
Robbed? That would not the correct term to use. Robbery is a criminal offense. She did not such thing.

From the OP, he sent the money willingly, nobody forced him. Even the term "scammed" would not be correct. Legally speaking, she did nothing wrong. He sent her money free (nothing was contracted for), so she owes him nothing really. Maybe she changed her mind, maybe a better (richer) candidate came along, maybe this was her plan all along, who knows.... I'm thinking #3, but nobody really knows. I think the key here is to realize that everybody needs to use common sense when dealing with international relationships. This could have been prevented if he had used his head. I'm not blaming "the victim"; simply responding to a statement that is critical of the posters on this thread.

DO NOT SEND MONEY TO STRANGERS. If a woman (or man) can't support themselves in their own country and keeps asking for money, why would you think that they can be successful at anything here? When I was dating my wife (then gf) and she was still living there, I told myself that the first time she asks me for money, it's over. She never asked for a dime.

I guess I'll make a call to USCIS, it can't hurt, then drop the matter and as someone suggested, chalk it up to experience. And stay away from Colombia! I'll also warn the guy in FL if he isn't in on it but I have a sneaky suspicion he is. And yes, she is in the US.

I told her I wanted $1000 back immediately as a partial repayment of the money I gave her - I paid for her friggin' trip to the US unknowingly! She seemed scared and said she'd come up with the $, but then again, she's an oscar deserving actress. Mind you, it's not blackmail, I didn't threaten her with anything if she didn't pay.

Did you have a written agreement for the loan of money? If not, then it could be considered a "gift" - no repayment needed.

From what you wrote, she said she needed money, and you gave it to her. Sounds like a gift to me.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

To the OP, time to man up and acknowledge that your "picker" is broken. There are literally thousands of willing, loving, serious and beautiful Colombian women searching for a good man to love and cherish without drama and BS. Drop the one that you got and move on.
