Parents in law visitor visa denied

My Parents in law live in Canada and are permanent residents there. They had a visa interview today for a B2 visa but it was denied. The visa officer didn't even bother looking at any documentation and just said that it was rejected after asking what my father in law does and the reason for travel. My father in law has been unemployed for a few months.

My wife is still undergoing I-130 processing and is in Canada. Our plan was for her to come here with her family and having a reception here. It looks like her family won't be able to come now. What can I do to make sure that if they apply again, they will not be rejected? Should I wait for my wife to get here first? Would it be impossible for them to get a visa if he does not have a job?

Are your parent's in law, canadian citizens or land immigrants? Why did they went to apply for a visa, canadians don't need visa to visit US.

There is really nothing you can do for them to ensure the visa approval. It is on their own to qualify for a Visitor Visa and show strong ties back home, like job, own a house and things along the line.

They are landed Immigrants, hence requiring a visa to visit the US. I have obtained more information from them, Although the CO didn't specifically say that they were rejected, the received a document stating that the visa was refused under Section 221G and that further Administrative Processing was required and they will contact them in 2-3 weeks. What exactly doe sthat mean?

Did the CO keep their passport/?seems like something positive could still come out of it if that is the case.

Usually an outright denial means they give you back your passport and the slip and mention of being contacted again...at least that was my personal experience

Hmm very peculiar, well let them wait till the two weeks and see if anything comes out of it.

The statement : "they will contact them in 2-3 weeks" was it made verbally or do they have it in written form? that way they can always contact the emabssy after the wait period elapses to ask for their decision.

Don’t know why CO gave out 221g, but if he did not hold passport normally means they got rejected.

I am thinking from CO perspective it seems the whole family is looking to immigrate…… daughter is moving to US and then her parents are trying to enter on B1/2 on top of it no job it CA makes it even more difficult.

Which leads to higher chance of rejection.

If they wanted to reject they could have just recejted it, why go through this additional hoop?

more than likely their visa will be approved (eventually) because if they were refused outright, they would have received a '214b' letter, not a '221g' letter. They are in the midst of 'admin processing' right now...and if your in-laws aren't criminals or bad guys, they should be granted their visas soon.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, not sure why CO did go thru this route, normally while one is in AP they hold the passport.

So I was not sure what CO is doing as he returned the passport back but also gave the the AP document.

Might be good idea if they can call the consulate and check whats going on and they can give a better reason.

Another thing you can check if they got a little stamp in back of their passport with the date when they did the interview. Normally that also means that visa application was rejected.

Passports are no longer stamped when a visa request is denied. That stopped about 5-6 years ago.

Passports will often be returned during AP since it is not needed during this process. Once AP is complete, and assuming no glitches, the applicant(s) will be called and asked to send/bring their ppts back to the embassy.
