Hi there

I am currently in the process of applying for an immigrant visa to move to the USA with my wife.We have applied directly at the London embassy

I do not wish to have any vaccinations in order to get a visa and I believe that the I-601 allows for me to apply for a waiver to the vaccine requirement as it says so on it.

Does anybody have any experience on this or information about when I would need to submit the I-601? is it possible to file it before my medical/interview or must I wait to have my application denied at the interview? also, I know its like how long is a piece of string but what sort of time frame can I expect to get a decision on the waiver? My wife is 2 months pregnant and would like to be in America for the birth.

Many thanks

DCF London IR1 Visa :

I-130 sent 3/11/11

I-130 Notice of receipt and payment taken 18/11/11

The vaccination waiver form is I-690 and not I-601. I am not quite sure when you submit it since you are doing DCF. You may want to check with them. I would assume it have to be done before medical as for your visa you are required to have vaccinations.

You will need a medical exam before you finish this process a lack of vaccination's are medical or religious, as far as I know.

I only know one person on here who was approved for the waiver, and it took about 15 months.

Are you UK born and had childhood vaccines? If so, you may already have all vaccinations needed.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

I am UK born but I haven't had a shot in 15 years so I doubt I am up to date.

Why should it take 15 months?

Most vaccines are done in childhood, so do contact your GP, NHS or whatever. Chances are you may only need tetanus, and possible a flu one, and I am not even sure that is a MUST or just recomendation.

They are just dragging their heels with waivers, especially vaccine ones. The few people that have come back and said they were denied also took around that time, so you're in for a bit of a wait.

Here is where I got this info. So it does look like I-690 to me.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-690instr.pdf

hhhhmmm thanks for that, the plot thickens as you are correct that form suggests it is also for the same purposes as the I-601 so ???? its also $385 cheaper to file than the I-601 so I don't know what to do but I hope to find out.

Maybe you need both forms? Do a search here for vaccination waiver, you'll find some threads about it, the question comes up every few months.
