Hi everyone! Hope you can help me get prepared for my visa application.

I'm planning to visit my brother, relatives and friends in the US this coming April or May. I'm 25 years old, single, still living with parents in the Philippines. I'm very anxious to reapply for visa this time around as I got denied about 2 years ago. Considering that it was my 2nd renewal and we (with my parents and sibling) applied for a group visa, my sibling and I both got denied because according to the consul, we "did not have sufficient or strong ties in the Philippines". I was really disappointed by this, as my family and I have been travelling since we were kids. I for one, have visited close to 20 countries and really have no intentions to work elsewhere.

Our application was back in June 2009, I was employed for 2 years with my former company. I'm now with my third employer for 1 year and is due for promotion by March. Any tips on what documents to bring as well as the questions I should anticipate (and how to answer those questions)? Should I declare my brother who's been living in the US for 10 years now and is now married (with kids) as a greencard holder?

Thanks in advance!

What questions were you asked last time.

What documents were you asked to show.

Never lie on Visa application forms.

Questions: How old are you? What's your occupation, how long have you been with your present company? No documents, except my certification of employment. That's it. I was asked first then my sibling (who stayed in the US for 5 months the last time), could it be that my application was jeopardize by how long my sibling stayed in her last visit?

Well, we actually did declare that our brother was living in the US.

What does it mean exactly if they're looking for strong ties in your home country? What if you're really single and young. They can't take that against you. And I can't do anything about those circumstance. :(

Thanks much for the reply!

You will most likely be asked something similar next time.

The best 'ties' for someone in your position is usually a steady job.

Young and single people are statistically more likely to remain the US than the older folks, thus expect more scrutiny. Just a fact of life.

There are no specific things one can point to that will suddenly make you qualified. The VOs are trying to determine if you have more reasons to return to the PI than to stay in the US and/or work without permission, something that, as you already likely know, is quite common from your fellow countrymen. Their actions have made it more difficult for others.

A year on a job is not much....making it easier for you to abandon said job since you don't likely have anything vested or invested in a retirement plan, nor could you have realistically made significant progress within the company, no matter what the boss may write on a piece of paper (which are just words).

Don't know how old your sibling is, but if of a working age, 5 months is not a vacation; it strongly suggests that somebody was working without permission in the US in some manner, since few Filipinos have the resources to camp out in the US for nearly half a year...it also suggests that said sibling cannot possibly have meaningful employment in the PI, because no company hands out 5 month paid vacations....so it sounds like much of the picture involving you and said sibling seem iffy at best....and iffy cases are resolved by being denied.

That actually holds true, unfortunately. Based on own experience, I was sure that my employment status was the only deciding factor for my application to be approved. The first thing the consul looked for in my application was my employer and asked me how long I have been with them. When she was satisfied with my response, the next question was how long I intended to stay and so on and so forth. No documents were even asked.

There aren't any set of questions...it depends on the CO. what they are most interested in is convincing them that you have strong ties to bring you back. qwhwile some may look past your age to ask for pointed questions others may see your age, marital status and the fact that you have family there as enough reasons to deny.
