Hi,

I'm looking into applying for college here in the states. Im kinda confused about the tuition rate I should be looking at. Are K-1's considered Residents of the state or do I have to look at the depressing out-of-state tuition?

My current K-1 status is: Already married, Received my SSN, AOS is still in process. I just sent out my AOS application 2 weeks ago, received email confrmation that it was received, got check cashed already, and now just waiting for biometric schedule and etc.

So to sum up questions:

1) Do I pay wonderful in-state/state resident tuition or very disappointing out-of-state tuition?

2) Am I even eligible to start college here without while AOS is still in process?

3) Can K-1's apply for financial aid?

Oh, and also this is not related to college info... when my AOS process is done and I receive my GC, what will my status be under? cuz it wouldn't be under K-1 still, would it??

Any question about tuition or enrollment should be directed to the school. The school can decide who classifies as 'in state' and who does not

Good luck

You need an ARN to be eligible for federal financial aid. As far as I know, a K-1 doesn't qualify for that because you are entering the U.S. on a non-immigrant visa (even though you are immigrating)

Once you receive your GC after AOS, you will be a Permanent Resident of the U.S. and then eligible for federal financial aid. You will have an ARN (Alien Registration Number). Anything before that - sure, you can apply - but you're probably only eligible for some kind of private financial aid from a bank (which means you have to qualify based on income/credit)

Check with your school's FA office to see where you stand. Good luck!
