I do NOT think you have to have a joint bank account, that's personal preference and doesn't define if your relationship is real or not, although it does help. My husband and I dont have a joint bank accounts but i.e. he is beneficiary in my bank account so that kinda helps too. As long as you have some other strong evidence as health insurance with both of you on it, car insurance, bills, DL with same address, etc etc you should be fine. Good luck!

Go to a different bank. You should just need your passport to open a bank account. People HAVE been denied for not having joint bank accounts. Mostly though this is because they don't have a lot of other good relationship evidence. To protect yourself you should do this.

You don't need to have a constant flow of money in that account. It doesn't need to be the "main" account but showing financial "trust" is a big thing and a good piece of evidence. I know I wouldn't want to be denied for something so easy to obtain.

You may not be able to open a new account together, but adding you to an existing account should not be a problem. We could do that with only my passport (which is an ID). :)

You don't need to have a joint account. I never had because my wife and I had several personal and business accounts already.

What matters is that you have access to his money and that he has access to your money. In lieu of having a joint account, you could provide a letter from the bank manager stating that you both have full access to the money. That's what I did for RoC. The bank manager doesn't even need to know what it's for.

To whom it may concern:

This is to state that Mr. And Mrs. X hold the following accounts at our bank:

1) checking No. xxx

2) savings, No xxx

3) money market, No xxx

Both, Mr. and Mrs. X have full and unrestricted access to these funds.

Date, signature, done.

That said, I had a US bank account before I had anything else. I know tourists who have bank accounts, because I helped them open them for them. It's simply not true that you can't have a bank account before you have an ID. Banking is for money, not for immigration.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

You don't have to have evidence of joint bank accounts. We didn't. On the letter for the AOS interview, the other supporting evidence includes: life insurance, car insurance, health insurance, photos and correspondence that validates your relationship.

I took, car insurance, health insurance and photos. Of course, the more you have the better it is. Even so, the interviewer accepted what I had as she said she understood, without certain ID, it would be difficult to obtain things like bank accounts.

Good luck!

ps: My interview took place during this month.

pps: At the bottom of your interview notice, there is customer support number that you can call should you have questions regarding the interview or supporting evidence needed.
