You planned a big wedding and something happened. You needed to return home. Same type of thing can happen again. You simply cannot predict the future. Most everyone will tell you that the safest thing to do is WAIT until all your papers are done and approved. THEN go and make plans. It's all too stressful going through this process only to add deadlines on top of them. Getting your visa is the important thing. A big party is nice but definitely second place.

I'd say the September suggestion is the safest. You just never know with the K-1. Some people get through it fast, others take much longer.

In my opinion that would not be a good idea. I hope no RFE comes your way as it has delayed ours over 2 months. Heck happens all the time. Just to give you a heads up, we are now at 249 days since our NOA1 into our 9 th month). So my point is, making definitive plans before you have your visa probably not the best decision. Many couples have a quick court house marriage and get started on the next step of paperwork, AOS, and then plan a "formal" wedding for everyone when the timing is better. So much stress already. But you will know what is best for you.

I wouldn't plan anything. There is no rhyme or reason to this process. There's no telling how long it might take.

And gosh forbid you get a 221g at the interview. I wouldn't be able to live with the anxiety of waiting.

This is exactly what Haidee and I are doing. The plan is to get married on paper as soon she gets here, the once we have enough money we are going to have an official wedding, one here and one in the Philippines...so technically we are going to be married three times Should I propose each time? hehe

I got my NOA1 around the same time as you with a target date at july 6th but based on the timeline and the fact that some time is needed to make sure you wont lose deposits etc, we changed the date to late sept, better weather anyway if it happens to get approved faster, no prob, we will be getting married on paper before the big event so it will be within the 3 months officially. I would do the same personally, plus think of it this way, technically you can marry your fiancee twice :3

Our NOA1 is in June and still waiting for NOA2 and we haven't picked any dates yet. In my opinion Sept would be a better month for you guys.

Omigod, I can't believe you made all these big plans before actually having the visa in ur hands......

ANyway, maybe you can go back to US on tourist visa while waiting (if its even possible), have the wedding and come back to receive ur visa. Cuz just having a wedding doesn't legally change anything until you have ur civil wedding....

That's a really tough question to answer, especially with the invitations already out. Mark and I are about to hit 6 months from NOA1, and even if it came today, it's still another 4-6 weeks after that at the earliest due to interview and all. Each person hopes their plans go smoothly, but I see people going on 8 months NOA1 still sitting in RFE. I guess the important question is, if it comes right down to it, which is more important - a wedding ceremony with friends, family, the whole thing....or just being married and together? For me, I will be quite happy with a small civil ceremony, and then a formal reception and renewal of vows when it can be planned.

I would not make any solid plans until you have your visa. hard as that may be. A lot of folks just get married in a civil ceremony to satisfy the K-1 then make big plans later. Can be much less stressful this way, and you may enjoy it more. Moving to the US etc is stressful and getting all settled is kind of nice before doing the big wedding. If its too late, then I would still try and push it further than July. Processing times vary daily, and trends change easily! good luck to you and I really hope everything can go according to plan and you don't have any possible hitches along your journey!

I used the timeline of others to estimate my time too. I knew Karen would arrive here after her birthday but before mine, and that she did. That gave is a 2 month window which was delayed by an RFE but was still timely. We were able to move up the Embassy interview date as well. You have to remain flexible. If I was planning an all-out show I would have moved the date further out to be sure. You don't know what will happen with flights, politics, etc. Hope for the best but plan for the worst.

My finacee(now wife) came over from Korea on K1 visa we filed 4/13/2011 and received visa 9/16/2011 with no RFE's

We were married on 10/1. We scheduled the wedding day for 10/1 from beginning, but didn't set firm date until VISA date was received.

I think it's okay to pre plan, but I would advise against setting a hard date and plan around it. Once you get NOA2, you will have better handle on interview date.

Also, we ordered wedding invitation card from Korea, she brought them over from Korea..

If I were you I wouldn't make any hard plans until you have your visa in hand like buying a plane ticket like me what a dumb move on my part thank god it worked out ok but what an unneeded added stress.

I Agree with Previous posters. I WOULDNT set any firm wedding Date or Plane Ticket or any other Event, "UNTIL" I got that Sweet Lil Visa in my hand!! :thumbs:
