hopefully it won't take the full 8 weeks to get the certificate back. I know we're in different states, but we got told that ours would take more than a month to get back and we got it in a little over a week.

Also, make sure you get the correct kind of copy. There were 3 available when I went to order a copy (I think they were called regular, certified, and exemplified). I think the one you want is called "exemplified". It not only has the signature on it, but had a gold seal on it as well. Of course, it was the most expensive kind of copy to get.

Sorry I'm not more clear on exact details - it's been a few years, and my memory isn't the best right now (late at night, for one thing).

I remember I wasn't told which type I'd need the first time - I ordered the certified copy through the mail, and then found out I needed the other kind of copy. Sigh. We ended up using that copy for something else. The second time we ordered, we went to the courthouse and ordered in person, so that copy didn't take as long.

Oh - and I also offered to deliver the completed marriage paperwork to the courthouse, which I did the day after we got married, in person. It also helped shorten the amount of time between the marriage and the day the marriage was recorded and the official copy would be available for us. It also took away my paranoia that the paperwork would get lost in the mail or something.

Wow. I was really ####### about the whole immigration thing!
