Hello all,

I'm planning on filing for a K1 Visa for my fiance in a few weeks, but I'm having trouble writing the statement of how we met because I'm overcomplicating it. I met him when I was visiting my ex during what ended up being the end of that relationship. Does anyone have advice on how much detail to go into here?

The box on the form is indicative of how long of a statement they want.....like two sentences.

"We met in CITY, COUNTRY while I was visiting from DATE to DATE."

Then your evidence, passport stamps, boarding pass copies, restaurant receipts, currency exchange receipts, hotel receipts, and photos will bear out this meeting in that city during those dates.

That's it. Keep it simple. If you are free to marry now, they don't care if you were not free then. USCIS are not marriage counselars.

Ours was brief, concise, to the point, and fit inside the box provided. We had no issues. Good luck and be blessed!

Thank all of you for all of the great advice! We've decided to just make it fit in the box and put the basic information. We'll have plenty of proof to show that we have a valid relationship.

OP

How does this sound?

During my vacation stay in (add year and location), I was invited to a function with my host and I met my sweetheart. We exchanged personal information such as numbers and emails. We have been together since.

I have learned that Consulates play with wordings and it is very important to be careful what you say and how much information you give because they will use it against you by twisting it and making it seems though you have no credibility. You can use a pet name of which you call your partner. it is common between loving couples.

You don't want to sound as if you only went to the country with intention on marrying someone and bringing them to USA. Many consulates have stated that online relationships isn't normal (not saying your relationship is but that's how they think)

What do you think?

That is a good way of wording it. I don't want my fiance to get to the interview and for us to be denied on a technicality. And our relationship did flourish online, as that's how we got to know each other. This would be a good way of being truthful without sharing too much or too little. Thank you for the suggestion! :)

You are welcome and consulates should know that MOST international couples communicate online and not everyone has the luxury of visiting their partner every weekend! :bonk:

Whatever form you filled out and sent to USCIS, make sure your fiance review it. Many questions or tricks are from the forms.

It would be nice to visit him every weekend, instead of when time and money allow. Okay, I will do that! I'm planning on having him well prepared by the time his interview rolls around. I think I'll follow the suggestions I've seen here and send him a copy of everything I'm submitting so that he can review it and have any answers ready.

Yes you are WAY overcomplicating it

See here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/343564-describe-the-circumstances-under-which-you-met/page__view__findpost__p__5073875

Yours could be "I met [fiance name] in person when she was in the US on xx/xx/xx". Seriously, that easy.

As others have mentioned it's not when you first met period, it's when met in person in the last 2 years. If you met him for the very first time on Jan 1st 2010 and then went to visit again 1 June 2011 you would write "I last met [fiance name] in person when she was in the US on 1 June 2011" and provide passport stamps, ticket stubs and a photo to prove it.
