I have been looking up what papers me and my fiancee will have to do once we get our NOA2 approved and i found that the next step is the DS-156 and DS-156k forms. Within these forms the first box asks for a passport number. If my fiancee doesn't have a passport as of now does she need to get one before we can fill out these papers or what do we need to put in those boxes

Yes she would be the one coming to the united states

you know she will need a passport to travel to the US right lol.

not sure if you can fill out the forms without the passport number but she really needs to get one soon so best to do it now i think

Yes i know that she will need a passport to travel to the unites states but was wondering if that is something that they will issue along with the visa to enter the united states or if it is a better idea for her to go and get a passport on her own before we receive these papers

The U.S. Embassy does not issue a passport to a NON USC. Your fiance needs to get her passport from HER country.

She will not get a US passport until she becomes a USC - years down the road...

You truly need to get a better idea of all that is involved in this process before your fiance gets to the interview.

I understand the process and all of that i was wondering if when she goes for her interviews if they will issue the passport which would be from her country or if that is something that needs to happen before that time. i understand she will need a passport but didn't know if that was something they did while in the interview process or something she needs to do before she gets to the interview stage.

It works the same way in ALL countries. The NON-USC gets a passport from their Department of State (or equivalent), and immigrates to the US using that passport.

The beneficiary's passport is entered onto the DS-156, there is no space on the DS-156K for the passport number. In Embassy's where the DS-160 is electronically filed, the beneficiary's passport number is used...

The passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining for the beneficiary to enter POE.

The US Department of State can NOT issue a passport in the name of the El Salvadorian Government, just as no government can EVER issue a US passport.
