Amen to that, I just don't understand these naysayers who insist life is so much harder after the person arrives.

It's not "so much harder" but it IS harder for many people.

The immigrant is usually going through a period of homesickness. Then boredom from not working. Stress of not earning money and being TOTALLY dependant on the USC. Then the USC has stress of supporting the immigrant when they're used to only having to look after themselves. For many they go from living alone to living with someone else so that's an adjustment.

I had 2 "big" issues:

1. The food. The food here is very different to home and especially things like bread, chocolate, cheese, and even milk are so different and in many cases AWFUL that it was/is a huge adjustment to find food/brands you like.

2. Being unable to text/call my family/friends whenever I felt like it. I used to talk to my mother a couple of times a week. Family events (birthdays, holidays etc) made things a lot harder.

Yes being together is MUCH better than being apart but the first year of marriage is apparently the hardest and add immigration stress it breaks many couples.

I guess, like my darling yellow lab, I just have separation anxiety. :)

Living with someone is hard, even when you're madly in love with them. But those problems are of your own making, and they are yours to fix together. Being separated by red tape, there's not a damned thing you can do about it but wait.

4 weeks until her interview, at which point I'll start getting calmer....

p.s. Moderators (Mod's) and organisers help keep the forum somewhat organised (I say somewhat because it's hard to keep up I'm sure!). The mods are in charge of making sure people who breach the Terms of Service (TOS) are properly punished. They can also remove bad posts, block people from threads, and can also move, merge, delete/hide, close and reopen topics. Organisers can move topics from forum to forum (that is all).

Thanks for that clarification :) :)
