so while we're fixing the foundation, do we just stop everything else? or could we be, say, priming some cabinet doors in the back yard.

the cabinet doors being of course a symbol representing the mentally ill population. or an approximation.

The government needs to develop a triage mentality, kick the non-essential stuff to the curb for a while, and concentrate efforts on the really needy and necessary.

But, using this to further demonize the only folks in this country, albeit illegally, that demonstrate a work ethic and personal responsibility, not just talk about it while sitting on a couch collecting a government check, is just wrong.

I get it.

They could fix the foundation tomorrow. They know how to do it.

Who pays for the cabinet doors? Where does the money come from? Where else is money going? So actually, NO, you cannot prime the cabinet doors until you have a way to pay for it, the funding for it is enough to actually buy ALL the primer you need (nothing worse than a half primed cabinet door) and the funding will not be diverted to, say, the medical or educational needs of illegal slave labor to increase business profit instead.

FYI I do not demonize the victims being exploited by US employers. I demonize the US employers that should be offering a decent wage and benefits, worker protections, and dignified conditions to their workers in compliance with laws we have passed to assure fair pay and work conditions. Instead they hire illegals so they can avoid all that and pocket the cash.

The amazing thing is that the same people that usually support minimum wage, and other worker protections suddenly forget all about that when it is brown illegal aliens we speak of. This is purely racism.

Look, if people cannot handle punishing employers with taxes that break our laws, then how about a huge tax benefit for hiring LEGAL workers? Either will work and either will save the states billions that can then be used to provide things like mental health services.

I am in construction management and have been for decades. Our tradesmen are getting $24+ per hour plus an average payroll "load" of 61% for benefits. workmans comp, equipment and payroll tax. 61%!!!! Hiring illegals elimates the 61% PLUS they are not making $24 per hour or more, even though they may make more than minimum wage, maybe not, but that is 1/3 the normal pay for tradesmen. Illegals are not much of a factor here in construction but they are in other parts of the country. We could cut our effective hourly cost per worker from $38 per hour to $9 per hour, maybe even $12 per hour when you figure minimal equipment you would still have to provide, maybe not if you call them "independent contractors" which many do. We then can pocket the cash and get all these schmucks to defend the "rights" of illegals to be exploited.

This then leaves legal trades people unemployed and collecting unemployment, welfare benefits, medicaid, etc. Perfectly healthy, able bodied men thrown out of work and you wonder why there are no funds for mentally ill people? PLUS having to pay it for the exploited illegals when they turn up at emergency rooms. Lining the pockets of these dispicable employers is costing us a lot of money!

Not at all. The point being that Americans WILL do the work often done by illegals but they will NOT do the work for what illegals will. Nor should anyone have to work in those conditions and for that level of pay. That is why we passed the laws we did.
