I know this may seem rather simplistic...but why don't you wait until you have citizenship? Its only three years...and then you don't have to worry about it. Enjoy your time as husband and wife for a few years, get your citizenship and then you can travel back and forth without worry.

Whatever your decision...good luck!!:star:

Can you just get off the plane in Romania and receive this healthcare?

British citizens have the NHS, but if they leave Great Britain to live in another country, they can't just go back there for medical care.

They have to prove they have returned to Great Britain permanently.

How does it work in Romania?

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

If you really want to spend most of your pregnancy / post natal care in your home country but also don't want to risk being out of the US for too long then you could do this:

(and this is assuming you can get the health benefits this quickly as Rebecca Jo says above)

Go to Romania for an extended holiday a month or so for the fertility check up and tests. (Actually thinking about it - you can do this stage before you move to the US / get your husband to have his testing done under his insurance in the US)

Go back to the US - start trying to conceive - this may take a while so you want it to be fun and relaxed - not stressful worrying about your greencard or how long your husband has to stay in the country.

When you get pregnant - make plans to move home. You have several months where you don't need much prenatal care or medical help.

That would put your stay out of the country at under a year.

Pregnant women get free health care, and I can afford to pay for the pre-conception tests.

Yes. My current job is willing to give me a year long pass, so I could return to it, which would also mean that I will be eligible for maternity leave, aka money.

First, I want to start off by saying that I fully understand your position and where you are coming from. I am in a similar boat myself, though this situation isn't relevant for me and my husband quite yet and we most likely will end up waiting until I have citizenship before we start getting pregnant. Finland, as all of Scandinavia, has some of the world's best and most comprehensive maternal benefits to offer, and quite frankly the US healthcare system freaks me out. I also want to be closer to my family when it's time to have kids, which is why I have insisted from the beginning that once that time comes, we would consider moving to Finland for some time if our work situation allows that.

However, that being said, to me it seems like you just timed things really badly given your plans to conceive fairly soon, and given the fact that you currently have the K-1 still pending. Personally I think it would have made much more sense to wait until you have had the baby before even filing for a K-1 or a spousal visa, as it seems to me that you both want to have children sooner rather than later. Greencards are issued for people who want to permanently reside in the US, and it seems that this is not the case for you - at least not yet. If I understood your previous post correctly, you are currently employed in Romania and this job is willing to give you a year off (which seems extremely odd to me..), and then allow you to come back to work basically just so that you can then go on maternity leave from that job and therefore reap the full benefits of paid maternity leave in Romania. This to me doesn't seem like you are planning to fully move your life to the US. For ROC, it will look extremely suspicious that you not only left the US for an extensive period of time, but that you actually returned to a job in your former home country. Besides, as mentioned by previous posters, life doesn't usually follow a planned schedule, and there's a good chance things don't end up going the way you plan them now. You might take longer to get pregnant than you think, there might be a complication with the pregnancy or birth, you might not be able to return to the US when you planned to return for a host of reasons - and should you not be able to return on time, you won't be able to file for ROC, and you'll loose your GC.

I don't think there is a right answer to your situation - we all know that living in a multinational marriage is challenging, and we have to make tough decisions that other couples never have to face. The way I see it, you have three options to choose from:

1. Wait until you have filed for ROC and received the 10-year GC. This will give you a bit more flexibility, especially if you are okay delaying the citizenship process. You can get the re-entry permit then, which will allow you to be abroad for up to 2 years, and you won't have to worry about the whole ROC process.

2. Prepare to give up your GC when you move to Romania. This to me will be a colossal waste of time and money as you have just received it, but if you really want to go to Romania to have your baby/babies, then the GC might be the price you have to pay for that. Formally relinquish the permanent residence card before leaving the US, and be prepared to re-file for it through the CR-1 or IR-1 spousal visa process in Romania once you are ready to return. Keep in mind that it will take 9-12 months to get the visa after you file, so time it right.

3. Stay in the US. It seems you are pretty set on going to Romania - but give this another thought. As I said, I fully understand where you are coming from, and hope to be able to go to Finland myself when the time comes for us to have babies - but I am also prepared for the fact that this might not be possible for a host of reasons.

Obviously, I was referring to Romanian women. And possibly EU ladies, though I am not sure on that.

Okey, thank you everyone for the input. I haven't even gotten my NOA2, but I like to plan in time and know my options. I'll let you all know how it went when the time comes, most likely I will renounce the green card and apply for it again when I am done spawning. And who knows, I might even like the US (ya, right, groan)

First, I want to start off by saying that I fully understand your position and where you are coming from.
