Good bear gun also for pack trips and it's a lot smaller than the Mossberg.

That gun feels a lot heavier than the Mossberg. It's a cannon.

You ever had one of those "have to have it feelings hit ya"? Iv'e had a few and my eyes were bigger than my brains at the time, and that S&W was one of them. A guy down the road whacked a brown bear on his back porch with it...this was like 4 years ago when they first came out, and I talked to him and he showed me that gun. So I went to the S&W site to check all the models out and bookmarked it. Like an idiot I would check that site out every night for a few months drooling over it until I got finally said screw it and I went and got it..a few years later. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal but I could have used (needed) that money towards my wedding instead of having to draw off my 401k like I ended up doing. But man I tell ya Charles, it's one of those guns you don't have to actually shoot anyone with to stop an intruder. You just shoot it up in the air and everything within half a mile freezes in it's tracks. They have it listed as the most powerful hand gun in the world and I can believe it after seeing what it's done the few tree's Iv'e took a pock shot at.

Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

If I walk into a hardware store (we still have a few REAL ones...not Home Depot) or a good gun shop (around here not many good ones) I will spend money. I can't help myself. It's close to sex.

There's a joke about a state trooper who pulls over a grandmother. When she shows him her driver's license the cop catches a glimpse of her conceal carry permit..so the trooper inquires as to whether she's carrying any firearms in the car? The polite granny says "Yes, I have a loaded Glock 17 in my glove box. The cop asks her if that's all the guns she has in the car, and granny says, "No, I also have a loaded Sig Sauer 228 he my console." The cops asks again, is that it? Granny says, "I also have a loaded S&W 38 Special snub-nose revolver in my purse." The trooper asks her, "What are you afraid of?"

Granny answers back, "Not a fuking thing!"

Good one.

Well, I have a vintage .38 Detective Special snubnose in the safe and a loaded '53 P. Beretta cal. 6.35 in my night stand, not that I will ever need to use any of those.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

So far I have not needed my spare tire, the jumper cables, my life insurance, homeowners insurance, personal flotation device, ski helmet, hard hat, steel toed shoes, safety harness, or safety glasses.

I still use/keep them and it hurts nothing to do so.

even if you are lazy and don't take proper care of it.

Proper care? Is that like cleaning it once a year?

NOTHING will make an invader leave quicker then the sound of a large dog( which can be a very loving pet and also very protective of family)

There are electronic barkers you can buy to plug in next to your door. When someone knocks, the big bark sounds. You can yell "shut up... quiet. Stop your yappin." And people will think it's a dog.

The best 9mm is a .45

Yep.

Saw some unissued M9s for $419 recently. Supposedly unfired.

That's an awesome deal. Buy several!

When we carried the M-9 in the Air Force, we carried with a round chambered, selector on fire (decocked, of course). Based on how you'd like to keep the Glock, this sounds about like what you'd want for your home defense scenario. Plus, you like the Beretta already so the M-9 would be a natural step up.

:secret: biometric gun safe - i have one, it goes from closed to open within seconds.

Yep. Best way to keep your gun secure yet accessible.

Actually, aside from my recoil issue which was 85% joke, 15% truth, the cost to buy 45 ammo is high

You're only going to buy one or two boxes of ammo for HD purposes. It's not like you're going to go plinking all day with either caliber. The difference is only a couple bucks anyway.

I hear people talk about how expensive ammo is and I have to ask, "how much is your life worth?" Are you going to be sitting there thinking, "I saved $5" or are you going to say, "I wish I would've spent that extra $5." Regardless, you're already in for several hundred bucks. What's a few more dollars now?

The safe may take seconds to open when there's no threat, but what about under immediate pressure? Plus there's noise involved in opening the drawer and messing with opening the little safe door. And, if it's mechanical, it can fail. It may be necessary but less than ideal, tactically speaking.

Check out magnets. You can mount a magnet to just about any surface and then your gun simply sticks to it. You can mount them behind the coffee table, under the cabinets, behind the toilet... anywhere!

Silent, quick, great way to store handguns.

You guys must live in horrible neighborhoods!

My neighborhood isn't horrible but we usually have about 70 homicides a year in my city. Deadbolting the door seems like a pretty common-sense thing to do.

Yikes! You guys need to let everyone carry a gun. So far we have TWO homicides for the year for the entire state for the year and only a few days to go. Last I saw we did not have 70 robberies, for the entire state.

More guns, less crime!

Sorry Slim, I was talking about the Steyr M9, the second cousin to the Austrian Glock. They have never made it big but have a loyal following in some shooting circles. They stopped production for awhile but now they're making guns again. Some old pistols are still floating around in the used and surplus markets.

The Beretta M9/FS is a nice gun but heavy and I don't like the safety/decocker set-up. I'd prefer just a decocker but that's not a deal-breaker. If I went Beretta, I'd go for the 92 Compact...still made in Italy.

Most of the "victims" are already disabled from carrying handguns due to felony convictions, being a minor, commission of other crimes, or all of the aforementioned. Almost always, the "victim" is displayed on TV not in a cap and gown or picture from their job, etc., but from their mugshot. "He was a good boy."

Ah, yes. The Steyr M9. Good one. Steyr makes good products. If you like that setup, you could probably get away with a S&W Sigma for a few hundred bucks less. It's also similar to the new Ruger SR9. You could maybe even trick your hand into thinking it's a Springfield XD.

You can't go wrong with the Steyr. As for the Berettas, maybe you could look into a Tomcat? Basically the same gun only smaller. If you still wanna stick with the 9mm try out the H&K MP7.

Slim,

just checked Crime Checker for my Town, Ventura.

http://crime.venturacountystar.com/

We had 49 homicides since 1996, when they started to keep track. Only 27 of those were with a gun.

We had 1 homicide last year.

No dead bolt needed here.
