Name specific question

hello guys, it's been a while since i last posted on the forum boards, and i do hope you could help me answer my questions

here's the scenario.

For Example, My name is Ma. Andrea B. Molina..

please note : in the Philippines, the letters Ma. = Maria

During the I130 process, we specifically filled in my name as such. Ma. Andrea B. Molina

during the process of paperworks, USCIS processed my application as Ma Andrea B. Molina ... please take note that the period (.) after the name is missing

during the NVC Process, we filled in our paperworks as Ma. Andrea B. Molina , and after all the processes, the NVC still processed the name Ma Andrea B. Molina

here are my questions:

1. has any of you experienced the same scenario i did?

2. will it be a big deal if there is a missing period after the name?

3. will there be any effects on the interview outcome if this has been noticed by the consul??

4. Is it on the agencies' system that the name Ma. doesnt have dots after Ma?

please help shed some light to my query. Thank you.

Obviously, there is no general information regarding this. If a problem does arise from a missing/included period after Ma. then it will be due to the interpretation of the individual processor who is reviewing your documents. Highly unlikely there is a specific policy concerning this. Hopefully someone with specific experience with this will respond here.

So you are saying your name is mis-spelled as the period isn't there? Do you want it corrected in the system?

Here in the States periods are not part of a name per sec, I really doubt anyone will consider the lack of one an issue.

You told USCIS that your name is "Ma", not maria. The dot doesn't make a difference, you should have written Maria as that is the actual name, that's why the form has a space for foreign name convention.

2. They think your name is "Ma" and it's not Maria. The period itself doesn't matter, they have your name wrong.

3. "Noticed"? You should be pointing out that it's wrong and that "Ma." means maria and have them fix it otherwise you will face a lot of hassles fixing your name later.

4. Ma is a name. The period is irrelevant. You told them your name was Ma, they didn't know that meant Maria.

Long and short of it. You should never have written your name as Ma. Now you need to fix it. It would have been like someone from Australia (like me) writing the date in OUR convention which is date/month/year so that for instance someone with the birthday of 1st April 1980 in Australia would be 01/04/1980 and in the US that would mean 4th January 1980. This is why you need to be mindful of what the rules are for who you're submitting the form to.

Unfortunately this will probably cause more issues than you realise and you need to call them ASAP. They didn't run the FBI and other checks under "Maria" so you need to tell them that's your ACTUAL name and that "Ma." is just how the Philippines writes it. This will probably delay you a bit but it's important to fix it.

in all docus i have, my real name starts with Ma. i was just introducing the idea that the letters Ma. is Maria as read and understood. i am presuming also that this might or might not be an issue, so i am trying to gather all the evidences i can present them.

the only question i have is that will all the original docus i sent, police record, bc, pp, and police clearance. my name was typed as Ma., and why they mustnt have noticed it.. every docu passed well at USCIS and NVC though, and im happy about that.. i just pray that this will not be too much of a hassle.. i'll have my hubby call NVC after the holidays about it just to clarify.. thanks for ur input...

my obsessive compulsive mode had just started up again.. i counterchecked all documents we scanned and submitted and indeed, USCIS and NVC papers and all forms were correctly filled in with my name as Ma. and documents required and provided all indicate as such.

You may see the period as an important part of your name, but truely not the case in the States here a period is just a punctuation mark.

all of my names on my docs are like the sample name i typed here. Ma. Andrea B. Molina... i made sure that all docs in my end are consistent with my birth cert and my passport.
