The guy is French, and French is not about being some sort of cookie cutter clone from the Pink Panther. He should have to take anger management classes and be forced to watch every Jerry Lewis movie as punishment, but he's not going to be deported.

The guy is about as French as a Hawaiian pineapple. He won't be deported, but he should be imo.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I take my patients' and their families' autonomy VERY seriously. While as a nurse I feel I am entitled to do my job without having violence inflicted on me, I also don't remove their clothing without their consent. Childbirth can be a very vulnerable time for women, and their rights and autonomy as patients often gets steamrolled. While giving birth in the first world has never been safer right now for many women in most hospitals, there's still a long, long way to go even there in regards to the inherent rights women are entitled to in a hospital setting. I think what you're saying is a good start actually.

Ya, to extend my concept, even further -

PUT THE QUESTIONNAIRE INTO THE CHART !!! (The chart travels with the patient, always; doctors and nurses read it throughout the patient's presence in the hospital)

But I have another thought, however malformed. Usually, if 'the hospital' is 'the one' chosen by the couple, prior to birth - there's some counseling done and even a flippin' INTAKE of information at the hospital. 'He' could have easily (and calmly) made 'his' preferences known during that intake. I sense this intake wasn't done, at all, it all seems like some cut-rate, cheap-#### afterthought, after her water broke of getting her to a hospital.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Yes, I'm afraid it will. If you don't want to be American, why do you want citizenship?

Frankly, in the UK, I was never made to feel that I would ever be British if I got my passport, despite living there for most of my adult life, knowing the culture intimately and identifying more with being British than American, which I am by birth. The British are terrible about welcoming assimilation. Americans are rather good at it -- which is why in general we don't have as many issues with (for example) Muslim immigrants not feeling like they could potentially be full members of society. As an Englishman, I'm sure you know what the lack of this push towards assimilation has done in the UK.

I never said I didnt want citizenship, citizenship doesnt make me american.

The UK is the most tolerant and welcoming nations in the world. What we do object to is the minority trying to change OUR culture, impressing their beliefs and values on us. I am all for multiculturalism but when the ethnic minorities create their own isolated communities with no intention of integrating. I live in the largest pakistani area's in england so I think I am qualified to speak about multiculturalism. It was only last May that the prime minister said that multiculturilism wasnt working, need I say more.

Americans are a NEW country and are made up of immigrants, so obviously their outlook may be more welcoming.

You completely missed the point of his/her post...as in the meaning. I'l explain it in simpler terms. You can stick a McDonalds in London, but it doesn't make it British.

As I recall, the Americans and the Brits had a bit of a row over the Brits imposing their ways on the Americans. I also recall the Brits hanging out in Asia and other parts of the world imposing their ways on the native populations. Yet, they don't like it when exactly the same thing is done to them by the folks they did it to.

Pity.

The Brits left over 200 years ago. We thought of mass immigrating to Britain to push our culture and ideals on them but then we came up with McDonalds.
