Hi, I'm new here. I'm a Jan filer. I was very very surprised to receive the card-ordered email and the actual card without any interview last week.

I'll need to mail the new card to my wife because she is out of the country right now.

NOA: 1/18

Fingerprint: 3/2 (Done early. Assigned date 3/14)

Card-ordered email: 7/17

Good luck to everyone!

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that you cannot mail the green card. Sorry I can't give you a source, but I believe I have heard it from some of the more senior members. Does she have her expired green card and the letter extending for one year? Just my opinion, but it seems like she could show those and explain that she was out of the country when her new green card arrived.

Hmm...never thought of that. Thanks for the reminder.

But I found this from the Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Korean Embassy web sites:

If you left your green card in the U.S., you should arrange for someone to send it to you.

If you left your green card in the U.S., try to arrange for someone to send it to you overseas.

If you have left your Green Card in the U.S., please arrange for someone to send it to you overseas.

If you have left your green card in the United States, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recommends having the card sent to you by a secure mail/delivery service.

http://hongkong.usconsulate.gov/lpr_lost_green_cards.html

http://singapore.usembassy.gov/permanent-residents.html

http://japan.usembassy.gov/e/visa/tvisa-ivstolengc.html

http://seoul.usembassy.gov/transportation_letters2.html

So the only thing is to make sure it gets there securely. I need to mail something else to her anyway.

menina, Calypso, and Hedi,

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS! You guys are wonderful! ^___^

I definitely have the IRS transcripts on top, military docs next, then the utility bills, bank statements and all other less important documents at the bottom :) Jim also took the time to highlight our names, addresses and dates on the documents he found so I'm following suit (he usually leaves the organizing and highlighting to me but I was stressing out so much and he just thought to surprise me --- even though he's having an incredibly busy week at work!) :D

Calypso and menina, I think we'll do it chronologically like you said ^___^ It seems like a much better idea because they'll see that we actually do have stuff right from the beginning of our marriage.

Hedi, I LOVE the color-coding idea! I didn't do that (I only have blue paper and plain white paper at home) but I did color-code the highlighting - yellow for names, orange for dates, etc.

I'll have to check around the site and see what other people did about the RFE notice and I'll call the Help Line too. :) Lately it seems like they just give very scripted answers - not very helpful at all! The last customer service representative I talked to just read the online status to me (same one I could see when I logged in to my profile) when I asked for an update. :(

Another thing, should we send Express Mail or Priority Mail? With Signature Confirmation or without? The packet is definitely not going to fit in the regular #10 business envelope they sent so maybe I can just tape it to the envelope we're sending the packet in?

Fatima, my husband and I were away for a few days in Santa Barbara and just got back, and I wanted to respond to you, albeit a little late. :) I think sending your packet through Express Mail is a good idea (I believe Calypso suggested the same thing). We sent in our original packet without Signature Confirmation, but I was able to track the delivery online. I hope you get your documents sent in and I hope that approval comes very soon. :)

We loved Santa Barbara. I went there years ago and had forgotten how lovely it is. It was my husband's first visit to Santa Barbara and he found it to be gorgeous. You live in a great place! :)

I like it there, too. Did you and your husband go wine tasting? We've been to Santa Barbara twice since my arrival in the US. We are thinking of going to Solvang next time.

Welcome to VJ and congratulations on the approval! May you find the best way to send your wife her green card. If you'd like to be included in the timeline, please let us know the exact date that you filed your joint I-751 if you remember it, the decision date as indicated by USCIS in the letter and the date when you received her green card in the mail. luv.gif

We spent our first wedding anniversary in Solvang. There are a bunch of cute tasting rooms there for both wine and beer! Also, all the baked goods you can eat ;)

Exactly one of the many reasons why I love California! Our last outdoor wine tasting was in the vineyards of Temecula.

It must have been great for you and your husband to move to SB after being in Van Nuys, if I remember correctly.

We were supposed to spend a few days in Solvang before the Fourth of July this year. I already booked a room on hotels.com but my husband requested that I change it to Vegas. wacko.gif

Calypso, we didn't go wine tasting, but we did go to Solvang which is very charming (but touristy, as you can imagine :) ). We also spent a day at the beach which was very nice. We live in north county San Diego, so going to Santa Barbara is only a 3 and a half hour drive for us, and we should take more advantage of that distance. :)

As for Vegas, we actually went there for our honeymoon, because my husband really wanted to see Las Vegas.

Ah, a wedding anniversary in Santa Barbara would be lovely!! :)

Yes, the baked goods in Solvang were delicious! :D We bought lots of pastries while in Solvang. And they have lots of icecream and chocolate shops, which made me very happy.

We've been to Las Vegas many times before and I can appreciate it although it's not my favorite. We live in the Pasadena area so it's easy to find somewhere beautiful to visit without going to another state. Since I enjoy getting to know this country more, I do a lot of research when it comes to organizing our trips. My husband and I agree that one of the greatest places we've visited within California is the Sequoia and Kings National Park in the Central Valley. Kings Canyon is spectacular, having been carved by glaciers in the Ice Age. The drive to Kings Canyon is as unforgettable as Big Sur's.

Chocolate, pastries and ice cream sound perfect. These are enough for me to persuade my husband to go to Solvang before the grape harvest season. star_smile.gif

You know, I have lived most of my life in California and I have yet to visit Sequoia National Park. Need to do that one of these days.

As for Vegas, it's one of those cities that I can go to once every 10 years and that's enough for me. :)
