I-551 is the form number for the Permanent Resident Card (green card). An I-551 stamp is placed into a passport as a temporary substitute for a valid green card. A foreign passport with an I-551 stamp inside is proof of legal presence, and authorizes employment and travel abroad during its period of validity. Thanks, guess that means he needs two, one when his GC expires and his Passport hasn't yet and one after he has his new passport.

Just wanted to pop in here--we got our NOA1 on January 31st, so it looks like we're along for the ride! VSC got us, and right now it looks like they're taking ~8 months... hopefully things pick up!

Quick question for you--how are you guys getting your Biometrics appointments? Is USCIS sending you a letter, or were there instructions on my NOA that I missed?

Hi! Just to make sure, is Jan. 31 the Receipt Date on your NOA1 or is it just the date you received the actual notice in the mail?

Regarding the Biometrics appt, USCIS will send you a letter (ASC Appointment Notice) in the mail usually about 2 weeks before your scheduled appointment :)

"If you have filed an I-485, I-589, I-751, N-400, I-90, I-821, I-131 or I-765, you can expect to receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints and/or photographs taken. The timing of your appointment is determined by the number of applicants ahead of you that also need a biometric appointment. We try to schedule biometric appointments as quickly as possible and in most cases you will receive your appointment notice within 30 days of submitting your application. We will send your appointment notice approximately 14 days ahead of your scheduled appointment. It is important that you keep this appointment. If absolutely necessary, you can request that your appointment be rescheduled however, please be aware that rescheduling may delay the processing of your application. Please follow the instructions on your appointment notice if you need to reschedule."

"If you have filed an I-485, I-589, I-751, N-400, I-90, I-821, I-131 or I-765, you can expect to receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints and/or photographs taken. The timing of your appointment is determined by the number of applicants ahead of you that also need a biometric appointment. We try to schedule biometric appointments as quickly as possible and in most cases you will receive your appointment notice within 30 days of submitting your application. We will send your appointment notice approximately 14 days ahead of your scheduled appointment. It is important that you keep this appointment. If absolutely necessary, you can request that your appointment be rescheduled however, please be aware that rescheduling may delay the processing of your application. Please follow the instructions on your appointment notice if you need to reschedule."

Thanks! I'll wait for the appointment letter. :) Although I have to say, I'm shocked at how large the backlog currently is. I'm not in any particular rush (it's a very different scenario when your spouse is with you during the waiting period!) but I figured that lifting of conditions would be more straightforward.

Thanks! I'll wait for the appointment letter. :) Although I have to say, I'm shocked at how large the backlog currently is. I'm not in any particular rush (it's a very different scenario when your spouse is with you during the waiting period!) but I figured that lifting of conditions would be more straightforward.

I feel the same way... The only real reason I stress about it is because I can't imagine being apart from Jim again and having the 10-year GC in hand would finally give us peace of mind... I really do hope they start approving more applications so they can get to ours though!!! I would LOVE to see approvals for January 2012 applicants in 3 or 4 months :D or 6 months according to the current timeline :D
