If you arrived with a CR1/IR1 visa you do not need one. The stamp in your passport is your temporary green card. You do need to obtain your Social Security card.

Hi Walid,

Congrats on making it into the USA!!

Please edit your timeline to show the date you got the visa and the date you came into USA.

And I think the stamp in your passport will work but you need the social security number to accept a job. Most applications ask for the SSN #. You can leave it blank. If you checked for the embassy to apply for your SSN on the form then you should get it within 2 weeks.

Good Luck in your search

May 24, 2011 NOA1

Sept 11, 2011 NOA2-took 19 days to get case number

January 19, 2012 Interview- 240 days from NOA1

PLEASE EDIT YOUR TIMELINE IN YOUR PROFILE SO OTHERS CAN LEARN HOW LONG EACH STEP TAKES IN THIS PROCESS

As you entered the US on a Cr-1 visa, you are legally permitted to work because as soon as you were admitted, you became a legal resident of the United States. I do suggest you get your SSN soonish as many employers require this simply for applying for jobs

Good luck

When you applied for your visa (on the DS-230) did you apply for a social security card on the application? If so, then you just need to wait for your card to arrive. You do not need an EAD card your visa / stamp on arrival gives you the right to work for (1) year or until your green card arrives.

If you applied for a SS number on your visa application (at the embassy) you should NOT go to the SS office and apply for another one.

i don't get it.

Hi Walid i`m in the same case as you

you have to wait 3 weeks before you can go and apply for a S.S.Card this is the rule in case they will send you one by mail if you asked one with the DS-230

after those 3 weeks you still without it then you can go and apply for a new one

you will have also to wait to receive your G.card because they will ask you 2 proof of identity : Passport + G.C

you can`t apply for any work without the S.S.C
