DNA Test for CRBA - Dominican Embassy

Hello,

What i was wondering is, how did you guys proceed with the DNA test that is required for proof when filling for CRBA for your child? I live in the US, my spouse and child in Dominican Reoublic. Since we are NOT married, they will most likely ask for a DNA test to verify that my daughter is indeed my child, BUT the problem is, i wont be present on neither of the 2 interviews. So what im basically asking is, How will i do my blood work, what steps do i have to take, how much will the fee be (im guessing anywhere around $600-$800)? has anyone been through this and can explain what they did?

I don't know how it is in your country but my husband flew in and had all his bloodwork done by a civil surgeon appointed by the embassy. I heard there are other ways to do it where you wouldn't have to be present but I don't know of that procedure since my husband wanted to be present when his was done.

I hope you find the answer you're looking for

hi there :) I read your post and what stuck out to me was that you won't be present for either of the two interviews. I am pretty sure that the DR requires the petitioner to be present at the interview (some countries are different but if you read the DR specific posts...that's what they say).

Sorry my response doesn't address your DNA issue specifically.

Good luck with your fiance and your daughter's petition!

Carlos's wife is right........you should definitely be there for the interview

Also...I called the father of my kids...because as I told you, he did the same process as you are doing. He told me that he did the DNA through the civil surgeons office where they do the medical exams....he says he paid 28,000 pesos!!! Crazy ...and that was 5 years ago. But what he did say was that, even if you have to pay that fee....once the DNA comes out and matches, there's no denying the petition. They have to approve it, especially that you are a USC and you want your child with you.

But, there are other places you can go. There is a DNA kit you can purchase and both parties submit their samples, send it to the lab, and VOILA! And for that, you can be in a different location.....also, they mail you the kit to do it yourself. Obviously not a blood sample.

Most importantly, check with the embassy to see the guidelines on what DNA tests they will accept.

Um, no you can't. If the US Embassy requires DNA for anything then you will have to use a facility approved & authorized by the US Embassy for sample collection.

Yes I did, how does that change my reply?

It's irresponsible to say "You can do this" then follow-up with "but in case I'm wrong you should check with the embassy".

If you don't know then you really shouldn't say.

So just to make it clear:

IF DNA IS REQUIRED:

THE LOCAL US EMBASSY WILL DRIVE THE PROCESS.

THEY WILL TELL THEM WHERE TO GO NOT ONLY TO PAY THE FEES BUT ALSO FOR SAMPLE COLLECTION.

Any efforts to get DNA Testing outside of the Embassy's process is a waste of time, money & emotional energy.

First and foremost, the decision as to whether DNA and its specific requirements are wayyyyyyyy past the intruction of anyone on VJ. Furthermore, from a long topic conversation yesterday, the OP is very much aware that my knowledge on the topic of his child visa and it's requirements are not something I'm completely familiar with....therefore he would know to not rely on my post entirely and instead to seek out the correct information in regard to his issue.

I don't see where I said he could absolutely do anything. Everyone's information on here is second hand, because in 5 minutes the game could change along with its rules. You and I are just messengers. But if you work for immigration, I'll be the first to apologize......and then ask you to put a good word in for my mans visa so he can get it before new years.

Since I highly doubt that's the situation.....my thoughts to you is: take it easy cowboy. It's not that major ..... Also, it's the holiday season. There's enough angry and grinch infested people in this world .... Don't be another one ....smh

I don't see where I'm getting angry or anything of the such.

Your comments out of context can be harmful to others who may come here and read this thread but haven't read the other thread(s) where there are additional conversations between you and the OP so they may take you as a very knowledgeable person in this matter. If your feedback needs to be put into context for it to be meaningful then be responsible enough to provide links to "the rest of the story"...

I actually looked into the Whole "What if I need DNA for the Embassy" question because we knew there was a possibility of the Embassy wanting it so while I don't work for USCIS or DOS I have looked into this situation.

And in closing, it may not be that major to you because you're not someone looking for the information but if someone else is looking for the information and stops reading a reply like yours before getting to the disclaimer then it could lead to a major lose of time, money & peace of mind for them.

Yes VJ is just a bunch of strangers posting on the internet but shouldn't we all try to post the best possible information because other's may rely on our posts?
