Requiring people to have health insurance is "conservative," GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney told MSNBC on Wednesday, but only if states do it.

The argument aims to improve Romney's appeal to Republican voters concerned about the healthcare reform plan he signed into law as governor of Massachusetts in 2006. The Massachusetts law contains an individual mandate similar to the one in President Obama's healthcare law, which conservatives despise.

"Personal responsibility," Romney said, "is more conservative in my view than something being given out for free by government."

...

States' right to require their citizens to have health insurance isn't in question, but state mandates are equally unpopular. Fourteen states have already passed laws or constitutional amendments banning individual mandates, and another four — Florida, Wyoming, Alabama and Montana — have similar measures on their ballot next year.

"Personal" is the key word there Mitt. There's nothing "Personal" when Government is involved.

Mandating that you buy insurance from a private company like Aetna involves the government how?

If the government is "mandating" that you do something just for breathing/being alive and will "fine" you for not doing so, then it's not longer "personal."

So Newt wants to expand the Patriot Act and now Romney wants govt. health care?

They're out.

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

we're talking about politics, what does principle have to do with it?

Is there any other explanation for the RP fanbase to act the way they do? I refuse to believe that they're stupid enough to believe for even a split second that Ron Paul has ever had any chance of becoming the GOP nominee let alone win in a general election.

None of the current Reptilian candidates have any chance to win against Mr. O. It's almost like the Reptilians want Mr. O. to win again.

Mr. O. will only win again because there's not a single candidate among 312,800,000 Americans who is even remotely acceptable to sane people. Not that Mr. O. is a good choice, mind you. After all, they are members of the Corporate Party of America. They are all bullsh*tting us, they all work for their masters, they are all multi-millionaires, and they all can't really relate to somebody who is working from morning to night to make ends meet.

Do you think any of those could explain what a CR-1 or an H1B is? But they are talking immigration reform, reforming something they don't have the slightest clue about. The same applies to other subjects, whether education, health care, national security, you name it. They have no clue about any of these things, not even Mr. O.. When he visits a school, it's all arranged, all photo-op style. He knows nothing and he never has a chance to talk to people who have real questions. It's all scripted from start to finish. I hate them all.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

It's going to be a hell of a lot closer than it was in 2008. McCain lost by 7'% popular vote. And he was the most horrid uninspiring candidate imaginable. It's like they looked for the oldest Washington insider they could find to put up against Mr. O - who filled stadiums and had people passing out and crying at the time.

Simple math. Mr. O is not nearly as popular as he was in '08. Romney will do 10X better than McCain did.

I'm thinking +/- 2% popular vote.
