Hey, go to the "guides" section on the top left hand side of the VJ screen. There you will find everything you need! :D There's also a guide on how to apply for a SSN. If you look here, you should be all set. :) Good luck and be blessed, and soooo happy your love is home!

Also, you apply for her EAD (employment authorization document) at the same time you apply for AOS, and you do that after you get married. You will apply for AOS/EAD/AP all together for a total fee of $1,070. First things first, get married :D

You can apply for the SSN before or after the marriage.

AOS Guide

Try to follow the guide, if you have any questions we're here to help.

Moving from New Life in America to the Adjustment of Status forum. You will also find the answers to any SSN and EAD questions in the Working & Traveling forum. :)

Also, if she is planning on naturalizing you will want to do a bit of reading there. She will need to keep a record of any travel out of the country for this.

Yes, lol, you read that correctly.:wacko::help: LOLOL. If you apply for her SSN before you get married, she will have to have her name changed on the card after the marriage...so it's up to you when you apply. I think if it were me, I would wait until after I got married so I would have less paperwork! :bonk:

There is often no paperwork for a SSN. You are better getting it in your maiden name and before marriage because some SSA's claim that you're not eligible once you marry (which is wrong) and that you can't get it in your married name until you AOS. If you want an SSN, get it before marriage to be safe.

I think some states may require a social security number before you can marry. You may want to check on that. BUT CONGRATS! What a great Christmas gift:)
