Questions when entering U.S on VWP or tourist visa to get married?

My situation is really messed up and I'm about to blow up a lot of money for the wedding and petition, etc.

I know it's not illegal to enter the States on either VWP or a tourist visa but you have to "convince" the immigration officer at the airport.

So, I'm curious.

What is typical questions and how the conversation goes?

Did anyone get denied when they said "I'm coming to go to my wedding ceremony but I am going to leave the country right after the wedding. Here's my round trip ticket."

How long does the conversation usually last?

Did anyone ever lie and get caught or enter safely?

Also, I wonder if there's a discrimination against certain countries, which I guess is more of a prejudice of each immigration officer.

Thanks

Last time I went to the US, the officer didn't even ask me why I was coming... I was just visiting but getting married there had crossed our mind. And I did say I was gonna stay at my fiance's cousin, but it didn't trigger any further questionning.

If you want to be safe, bring proofs of strong ties to your country of origin: letter from employer, bank statement showing all your money is there, ownership of real estate, children living there, etc. Round trip ticket doesn't really mean anything, since a round trip is always cheaper than a one way ticket!

If you are asking how to lie to the CBP officer so that you can enter on VWP and not return, that is against the V J TOS.

Here is some good info for when you visit the US: Visitation FAQ's

There is no need to go into a long drawnout explanation at Customs & Immigration. Just answer the questions asked and be quick and to the point. They don't want a blow-by-blow play of your visit. You'll see a breakdown of it in that link.

Oh, and never ever EVER lie to the CBP Officer. That can have disastrous consequences... including a lifetime bar from ever entering the United States.

I happened to be in the interior office area of secondary processing one time when a couple was separated and getting the third degree. It was a nightmare for them, and something I sure wouldn't want to put myself through.

Your post is rather confusing. If you are looking for advice try to lay out your situation so people can advise.

If you are just looking for answers to your 4 questions I'd say there is no one answer, every CBP interview is different. Except #4, people lie and get caught.

You have to prove to CBP that you will not immigrate. Do they profile? Yes.

That's not even close to what I said in my post. Do you see anything about "how do I make up?"

Why do you get so offended like that?

I just wanted to be prepared to answer just like people are sharing their Visa interview questions.

Also, I was gonna give them almost like a well prepared presentation on why I'm coming but I was surprised to see a lot of ppl here actually say "don't tell them too much or all in advance before being questioned."

That's exactly opposite of what I was gonna do and I was curious how ppl got through the airport.

Considering the vast number of people the CBP sees in one day, they can spot a liar a mile away. I don;t care how good you are, you are not THAT good. tell the truth, as whacky as the story may be. As for the questions they ask, they can ask you whatever they want to. I saw one guy getting asked about where he went while in overseas. When he blurted out a city name the CBP agent asked him what thew weather was like when he left. The guy stumbled across an answer and then went to secondary screening. They have a LOT of power and if you have questions about travel you can ask those but please do not lie to people whose job is to catch liars. It never has a happy ending.

you have not clearly stated what your intentions are entering the US on VWP.

since you are evidently getting married, there is a concern that you are asking for help getting through CBP with the intent to immigrate (ie AOSing through marriage to a USC).

tell us what your intentions are and people might be able to better answer your questions.

those of us who waited a long time to be with our partners after having done things 'the right way' have more limited tolerance for immigration tactics that seem less than 100% kosher.

i take it your not actually going to file for a K-1 like it says on the left??

No it's still going and will be.

I've set my wedding a year ago when I was in US but had to rush back to my home country for a job. And both I and my fiance were gonna live in my country so we didn't need to file for any visa.

Later job situation got changed and we just applied for K-1 little too late for our set wedding date.

Now our plan is waiting for K1 until the last minute, and if it doesn't happen, enter US on a visa waiver program(preferably) or a tourist visa(like a lawyer recommended)get married and come back to my country. Then we'll cancel K1 and start CR1 process.

But on this forum, I've read that no matter what your intent is, how good your proof of tie to your home country is, the officer still won't be convinced and deny your entry.

So I just want to be prepared just like people share visa interview questions.

I'm a freelance worker and won't have a letter from my employer and don't have a fortune in my bank account to make them think I'm tied to my home country.

I know they can check my visa history right there. I never want to lie or anything similar to it. I only mentioned it because I was surprised to read some post that says people misguided the officer or didn't fully reveal the truth.

Material misrepresentations (lying) can result in a lifetime ban to US entry. Choose your path carefully.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!!!

No, I didn't mean to ask ppl "how to lie". As I said in the other post, I thought exactly the opposite. I was told to say everything even when they didn't ask specifically.

I was rather surprised to read some post people said they misled officers and still got out. I was curious if it was just their luck or difference of questions asked.

I was wondering if there was a set dialogue of question for officers.

I was a student for a long time in US and whenever I went in and out I had no questionnaire steps like this.

Thank you again!

I asked that question because like I said in reply, I read a couple of posts that said I didn't tell them this and that, or I didn't say it right.. something like that...

I was wondering if really that happened. Maybe you should read more about my other replies in this thread before accusing someone without enough evidence.

At least other people said "Be more specific to get right answers." If you're not sure about purpose of a post, that's better way of communicating rather than replying based on a misconception.
