I don't use VJ much unless I have a question about immigration. I don't use it for my social life like the majority of you guys do. There is one question I like to ask. It is kind of silly, funny, and cute at the same time. It depends how you guys interpret things. Here it goes:

I joke with barbie (my wife) about it all the time. She came from Phil in the summer. Like some of you, she doesn't have many filipino friends. Now here is the funny thing. We have been in few events where the majority of the people are from the Philippines. In Three occasions, some filipinas approach barbie, smile at her, and the FIRST FIRST FIRST thing they ask my wife is either her cellphone number or FB account.

Those ladies act same way as when guys are picking up chicks (Excuse my language). I think it is funny cute. Then they become friends, in fb, text mate, and go to the malls ... and so on(all are married).

My wife never approaches any filipinas because she thinks the majority of filipinas here are kind of arrogant. But any one who smiles at her she returns the same friendly smile. (I like that about her)

I am happy for her she already found few friends. Now she looks very happy and feel energized again.

I like to hear if some of the ladies here are experiencing the same.

My wife gets a phone number about 75% of the time when she meets another filipina. I think it's great she can meet friends that she feels a connection with and can chat in tagalog to. So far all of her friends have been great and I'm thankful for their friendliness towards my wife. It's because of them that my wife has done so well at adjusting to life here.

The question was:

Do they start talking and later your wife gets the number or do ladies approach your wife and the first thing they ask your wife is for the phone number? that is why I think it is so fun cute. The first thing coming out of their mouth is "can I have your phone number". So cute.

Before I came here, my husband was trying hard to find a place where most Filipino/a are..in short filipino community. I told him not to get crazy about it. Not that I am anti-social but I am somewhat kicked off from the mentality of people when they gather up together and talk about other people's life. i always think it's none of my business unless my advice is called for by the person itself.I hate "CRAB" mentality plus the "GREAT" show off mentality. I do have friends but seldom do I go out and if I do or talk to them more often ( tho not quite long time ) then they are those few who really passed my preference of what TRUE friendship is all about.

That is funny..sadly most of the Pinays I meet where I am at are but arrogant (I am ashamed of that) on my first year here, I have not meet any Pinays around but when I came across one, I meet dozens of them...I wonder where they were hiding all these time??? anyway, we became friends and they started going to my house on a regular basis after a while they would tell me how bad my house looks or how my car is not the latest model etc... which makes me feel bad as well I am working full time and so is my husband, but we tried to lived within our means, we dont own anything fancy or drive a fancy car or go to fancy places all the time like casinos or five star hotels so I guess it does not par with most Pinays who lived in my area for more than 20+ years so I back off :o it is shocking to know that despite the distance, we stil brought our crab mentality here...I actually became closer to some I meet here in VJ than the ones I meet in person isnt that weird? when there are dozens of Pinay around where I live...I bumb to some at Oriental Stores and I just smile and say kamusta...

Sad to hear that. Good thing the ones barbie meets are down to earth. Very friendly and they just mind their own business. All the do is karaoke, eat, eat and eat, and then after they are finished eating they eat some more. !

I don't understand your post.

I just simply mean that I am not against having friends but I am too picky when it come to who I can LABEL as TRUE ones...I am a Filipina and I know the positive and negative traits of our kind :D - The only thing I hate about big gathering which is mostly common as I observe is being mindful of other's else is life (they do it not because they are concerned of the person - but because they don't obviously like who they maybe talking about .. or they just have that mentality that they have to be on top of the others i.e CRAB MENTALITY - or doing well than them and can't accept and be happy when other people are happy ) - Plus, when people gather around " the GREAT" show off mentality too comes around - the "I HAVE THIS AND THAT" :D

Not here to generalize all Filipino/a tho - I believe there are still few good ones around :D

I don't use VJ much unless I have a question about immigration...or divorce.

^^^ Fixxored. :D

... Not too many responses, guess they are busy using VJ for a social life and not a common zone to connection with others in the long wait.

^^^ :lol::thumbs:

The OP must spend a lot of time lurking here since he knows so much about everyone. I wonder what that says about his social life!:lol:

No one mentioned anything about true friends....I really don't understand where you coming from. There is nothing wrong in having friends.
