Your report fails to put the rise in CO2 into perspective, nor does it mention the natural factors playing into the rise in levels of CO2. It mentions some facts, and then uses those facts in creating hyperbole. As I pointed out before, yes, we are contributing to the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere, albeit negligibly. It fails to recognize the fact that in terms of geologic time, the average temperature of the Earth is colder than it normally is...that the Earth is emerging from a major Ice Age. I expect the Earth to warm, I would be surprised if it did not.

It uses a small truth (humans are contributing slightly) to make large suppositions that fail to take other factors that also significantly affect what is happening.

If I would use such methods with my significant other, I would be guilty of using the truth to lie with.

As for internet sleuthing...I hold four degrees in science and graduated summa cum laude with the last one in Electronics Engineering(4.0). I know how to do scholarly research and have no qualms at all standing toe to toe with 'scientists'...I probably tutored some of them.

I think light bulb manufacturers are unhappy with government intervention, period.

All this is much a-do over nothing. Lighting has been a verty large part of my work for the past 30 years and I can tell you that incandescents are obsolete and but for some very speiclaized applications they are not the best, or even a good choice. I have none in my home and it has been that way for several years now

There are no laws needed. The manufacturers are going to respond to the market. Incandescent bulbs will go the way of the 8 track tape and it will not take very long. Congress may as well ban buggy whips.

As for Mr. Edison, one the world's great innovators...I am sure he would approve of the advances in his invention and if he were still alive would be trying to improve them himself. That IS what he did.

My comments have nothing to do with the Global warming HOAX. Incandescents are obsolete because there is something better and cheaper.. I am not against saving money even if it has -0- effect on the planet as a whole.

I doubt anyone would describe me that way now answer the question.... do you run the AC in your house or car or do you limit your energy concerns at light bulbs?

I suspect you are like most of the busybodies..... you want to control peoples lives, to make judgments about how they spend their money or how much power they use when you yourself can't even adjust to comfort levels which were the norm just a few decades ago.

When you get rid of your AC and clothes dryer, then come talk to me until then you are just playing token-environmentalist.

What? You're pretty good about bringing old canards to the table. Just did it again today with your very own thread on your cherished red herring.

You are just ticked off because Democrats will have a more difficult time stuffing ballot boxes in 2012.

And just to be clear...

I do not have AC because I live in Northern Vermont and don;t need it. I have LOTS of heat and use it to keep us toasty warm. There are unnecessary lights on in my house right now, but they are CFLs so who cares?

I have a clothes dryer...a BIG ONE and Alla loves it. We do not even dry full loads because she will dry small loads of delicates on low heat. We hang nothing out to dry, Alla did that all her life in Ukraine, it sucks. We also have a dishwasher, garbage disposal, gas powered weed eater, lawn tractor.

Global warming is a hoax and I hate the government telling us what to do.

That said, I do not need a law to make me wear seat belts, safety glasses, hard hats OR use more efficient light bulbs. Incandescents are SO inefficient that if I gave them to you FREE you would still lose money operating them.

I personally don't see lead fuel as a valid comparison only because the health and pollution risk are very different. Maybe the extra coal burned can be quantified between the bulbs but most scientists would say the health effect is negligible at best.

Mercury released into the air we all must breathe from the burning of coal has a very definite effect on health!

How do you feel about "electric cars" powered by coal?

I would feel a lot better about them if that electricity was generated by wind, solar, etc. Even natural gas is better than coal.

The truth is that regardless of whatever feeble attempts some governments may make there will never be the will-power planet-wide to forego the cheap sources of energy found in fossil fuels. As a practical matter, if we don't burn them, someone else will. I believe the science of global warming and I wish human nature would allow us to do the smart thing. But the science of human behavior dictates the futility of trying to get people and nations to voluntarily do the right thing for the collective benefit of the human population of the planet. I hope some other solution will be forthcoming. In the meantime I use CFL's, own a hybrid car, and have insulated my home well over recommended minimums. In spite of this I recognize that I, along with virtually all Americans, consume far more energy than the world-wide per-capita average. In other words, I am willing to acknowledge that I am still more a part of the problem than the solution. :(

Its effect on intelligence could certainly explain much of what we are seeing in the GOP primary race thus far!

How about the mercury released into the water supply from broken and improperly disposed of CFL's?

Good point! What IS the current status on the mercury content of CFL's?

4 milligrams per CFL. On a happy note, within the last few months, our community has finally come up with a way to dispose of all the CFL's and other fluorescent lamps that folks haven't been able to legally to dispose of on their own for the last decade or so.
