Question on Past Residences

Immigration forms ask about a beneficiary's previous addresses since age 16. In some countries, there is an official registration book of where you live. The official record does not, however, in many cases match the actual dwellings a person was living in. The address where you are officially registered as living in is frequently not your actual address.

So when they ask for previous residences, should one put the actual or official addresses? There is a requirement not to lie, and a good requirement it is, but which version of the truth should be written? Furthermore, I personally would be very hard put to come up with addresses of everywhere I have lived since I was 16, and the dates. It would be impossible. I would have to roughly estimate and give addresses without street names or numbers, just cities. What should a person do in such a case?

Thanks

I think Immigration is asking about mailing addresses. Maybe not PO boxes, but wherever you get your mail. Also, you are doing all this in good faith. They will understand your answers. You're right. You cannot lie and some of this is arguable, but I would trust your judgement. Good Luck!

Which form are you referring to exactly?

G-325A only requires you to list your addresses for the last 5 years, while in DS230 you have to write all the places where you've lived since you were 16, but naming the town only, not the precise street address (there's no field for the street address).

Use the example forms http://www.visajourney.com/content/examples they're helping a lot!

It's the DS230 that asks for city, state/province and country back to age 16. Provide the accurate residence addresses for the time periods. It doesn't matter whether they were official or whether you got mail there. Actual residence city, state, country.

The DS 230 is the form in question. It asks for residence city, state, and country.

OK thanks for the advice guys. She put the official residences on the I-130, which was approved, and I was wondering whether to put the same data or the actuals. Looking back, I think maybe she she have put them on the I-130, but her intent was not to deceive; that is her official record. I think if it comes up during the interview she can just explain that the I-130 matches her official records, and then when she got the DS 230, it seemed the actuals should be entered.

The I-130 asks only for the current address. The G325a submitted with it asked for five years of residence history. Is this really a K3 case or is it a CR1? Please update your profile to reflect the correct visa category and country.
