question about the interview

I'm only 3 months into the process and haven't gotten my NOA2 yet but I suppose it can't hurt to start getting ready for the interview.

I'm a US citizen trying to bring my Japanese fiance over. Her English is limited (we communicate 99% by Japanese), so is that going to be a problem at the interview? Also, I've read some about the interview and it seems like every couple I've read about in Japan goes to the interview together. Is this a requirement? It would be difficult for me to attend an interview in Japan because of my job.

Thanks for all the great information on this site. :)

9/19/11 - sent I-129F

9/21/11 - email NOA1

9/27/11 - hard copy NOA1

3/20/12 - congressional inquiry (6 months since NOA1)

4/4/12 - inquiry result: petition approved (still no NOA2 text/email/letter)

4/20/12 - packet 3 received from embassy

Looks like you have a month or two left to get the noa2. If you'll be with your fiancee during the interview, she might've a shot to pass it since the co will see tht you two can communicate, otherwise he will have a doubt bcoz the co wouldnt know that you can speak her language as well. I'll say call the us embassy in japan and inquire if they can provide a translator since the co usually does the interview in english. Tell your fiancee to start learning more since she'll be going to US anyway and she'll be needing it. Goodluck!

hmmm I'd rather not go unless I have to. Maybe we can set up a speakerphone?

I'll call them today. I've read so many other stories, and lots of them say the whole interview was in Japanese... I hope I'm just needlessly worried.

Definitely. We're only going to live here a couple years, but it's still a good language to learn. Thanks for the comments.

I've been lurking and reading more about the interview and it seems like some people go to the interview together, some don't, and some go together but one is told to wait in another room. I'm going to continue with my plan of letting her go alone.

About the language, it looks like some people are interviewed in English, others in Japanese, and others are even asked which they prefer. So I guess I don't know what is going to happen. Judging by the questions, though, I'm pretty confident we'll be alright. They look REALLY easy.
