Hi everyone, love the site.

I'm a US citizen engaged to a Japanese girl I met while working in Tokyo. She's still in Tokyo and I'm in Oregon. Been skyping and occasionally flying over to meet one another for ~3 years now.

I filed my I-129F back in September and got my NOA1 on September 27th, the waiting has been like watching paint dry. I'm hoping this forum will make the wait a little easier.

9/19/11 - sent I-129F

9/21/11 - email NOA1

9/27/11 - hard copy NOA1

3/20/12 - congressional inquiry (6 months since NOA1)

4/4/12 - inquiry result: petition approved (still no NOA2 text/email/letter)

4/20/12 - packet 3 received from embassy

Hi! I filed in September as well.. the waiting is the hard part, but don't worry, we won't wait forever, it will eventually come to an end. 2012 is indeed a good year for all of us! Let's keep our fingers crossed for January or February. Be strong.

Have you traveled to Japan since receiving the NOA1?

If so, what was your experience like with Japanese customs?

Yes, I just got back 2 weeks ago! I spent a week over there meeting her family and friends, reuniting with my old friends, and reuniting with Japanese food. It was the funnest/happiest week I think I've ever had.

Japanese customs went smoothly. They asked me where I would be staying, I said with my fiance. They asked her address, I didn't have it on me, but they accepted just her phone number. That was it.

US customs on my return home was a different story. My final destination was Oregon but my POE was Vancouver B.C. which doesn't make any sense to me why they do U.S. customs there.... ANYWAY, they pulled me and all the other US citizens aside for additional screening (that's right, EVERYONE who was a US citizen flying from Japan to Vancouver B.C.. We waited in a room with no explanation (or restroom). About 45 minutes later they asked me over and made me identify my bags. Then the customs agent went through all my bags one-by-one and pulled out every single item and questioned me about it. I wasn't allowed to help re-pack or touch anything and all of my clothes and some of my other possessions were bruised and banged up after the process. I was and am still outraged and am trying to figure out what I can do about it. Japanese customs were much more friendly. Coming back home was humiliating and depressing.

...by which I mean I hope my application won't be denied. I suppose that statement could be interpreted a couple ways.
