I saw that quite a lot of people receive their oath letters immediately after their interviews, even if same-day oath is not an option.

My question is:

If the USCIS computer system allows the adjudications officers to print out oath letters from their computers at the interviews, why will it take some people weeks or even months to receive oath letters, given that those people are also "recommended for approval"? How does oath scheduling actually work?

It depends on your office. I asked about this at interview, and was told that they do not have a certain schedule at my office (Fort Smith, Arkansas), such as every Friday. It depends on the number of applicants and when they have officers available to do the ceremony, or judges for those wanting name changes. I was also told to expect about 6 weeks wait time, but got my oath letter within a few days with less than a week's notice for my oath. I suspect they had cancelations for my oath day and decided to squeeze more people in.

It's just a little puzzling as how they do things. My DO is Boston. I've read that most people in Boston received oath letters at the interview. I recently (after waiting for almost 6 months) had my interview, passed the test and received N-652 with "recommended for approval", but was sent home to wait for the oath letter. Reading from different forums, it looks like there are a few applicants in the Boston office who interviewed in the past month or so. Anyone has experience to share? Thanks!
