I've been searching more about names and how to fill i-130 and i-485.

I have two first names and two last (family) names

Given name: Lara Sofia Family Name: Ferreira Lopez

how do i fill the i-130. do i have to hyphenate? Lara-Sofia and Ferreira-Lopez? even though my name is not like that?

Could I make Sofia my middle name even though in Portugal it is one of my given names? or do i put N/A on middle name?

My wife had the same problem. Her name is like...Sonia Maria Hernandez Noriega. You don't have to hyphenate. Just write it as it is. Lara Sofia is your given name and Ferreira Lopez is your appelido/surname. Write it as it is. In the US...Sofia would be considered your middle name, but at this stage it is not that important. What is important is the name as it appears on your passport because this is what your visa will be written for.

Good Luck,

Magnus

My husband has two last names, not hyphenated. We just wrote them both on the last name line, side by side, no problem. It's very common in Spanish-speaking countries so USCIS is used to it.

As for his first names, even though they are really considered to both be his first names in his country he put one as his first and one as his middle as he considers the second to be his middle name by American standards. We had no problems but I imagine you could put both as first names too - some people have two first names plus a middle name even in America (Mary Kate, etc.)
