Ol' Kip needs to find a better job. ;)

It's not so bad. They have plenty of shut downs scheduled up in Prudhoe Bay this summer, and those are 6 week hitches (6 weeks on and 2 weeks off) and I usually cut my time off to a week and then fly right back up. I'l so that for six months or more working around 100+ hours a week and then when I get laid off I'l file for unemployment if I don't find a maintenance gig up there and I'l sit back in the winter posting on here and watching ESPN while drinking my coffee.

Hopefully the wife doesn't find a temporary "filler in" while I'm away. That happens to a lot of guys when their gone for that long.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I understand a lot of you really not understand Kip's Working arrangments, how it's driven by the weather.

When you get a mo, please review the Sarah Palin 'My Alaska' video, currently available at yer local library for checkout. You'll understand more about the weather cycles and how it drives the work cycles, Si Man.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

It's not about understanding... it's about agreement.

I know a few of those peeps on that show and they play it up for the camera's seeing how they were asked to. The only real "ice roads" are the ones up on the slope that cross the rivers (bridges made of ice), and the ice roads going out to the drill rigs that are right off shore in the Beaufort Sea.

Most of the driving is done on the Haul Road aka Dalton Highway. It runs from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse. It's a much better drive in the winter than in the summer. Summer months it's like driving in a bomb zone with all the gravel and dried out mud holes.

I noticed Carlile told both the major Canadians not to come back, one for wrecking all the equipment, and the other for stopping and helping drunk Inuits stuck in the snow.

Carlisle (non union) and Lynden Freight (union) do the most trucking up there and then they sub out a lot of it to private outfits...like when the mods get hauled up there in pieces to be put together up there. That's the hairy runs. Pilot cars and wide load all the way and you p*ss in a pop bottle for the fact there's no way to pull over once your on your way from Fairbanks.

Here's a pic a buddy of mine posted on Facebook yesterday at around 2pm in the afternoon. It's as dark as midnight during these months 24/7 and everything is frozen rock solid. This pic looks like it was taken at a BP Flow Station. What those flow stations do is they separate the salt water and other bad ####### from the crude oil and then they reheat the oil to around 400 degrees Fahrenheit before they send it on to Pump Station #1 to be pumped down to Valdez and then loaded on tankers. Crude comes out of the ground a little over 200 degrees so it flows pretty good down the pipes from the get go.

Those lights in the far back ground that you see in this pic are "flare pits" that are miles away. They burn the excess gas off 24/7. All that gas being burned off is going to waste seeing how it's the same gas that runs dryers, water heaters, etc.. in our homes.

Ron Paul wants to end all that. He'll leave it up to the states to do as they see fit and won't subsidize one energy over another.
