how long does I-751 take to be processed

let's say your NOA1 date is june 9th.

normal processing is currently listed as 6 months. (at the moment, we all know that CSC usually comes in under this mark, while VSC does not.)

june 9th + 6 months = december 9th. you are, in theory, outside of normal processing times. january 9th would be 7 months.

hopefully when you call they will be able to put in a service request and get the process moving again.

even if your local office is quite busy, it seems like at least they could have set you an interview date.

anyways, good luck and keep us posted.

Why do they make you file within 90 days of expiration if it takes six months or more to process? Can you work with an expired green card? I know you can't drive (in Texas) without it...

Because they thought they can get it done within 6 months (plus 3 if you fire 90 days prior). Their estimation on the window that'll take to process needs to be updated as many of us are looking at more than what they say on their website (6 months).

You can't work, even suppose to be in the States with an expired GC, but then again that topic is a giant oil drum of worms so I'm not going to touch it.

Just wait, sometimes it takes forever but bottomline is, if by the 3-month mark of your NOA extension date & still nothing, fire your N-400.

USCIS usually updates the expected processing times monthly on the 15th. we are due an update soon. i think it might not be good news judging by the slowdowns.

  • 9 months later...

I totally agree with Steve here because I have similar experience.

I guess Gary and Alla may not feel the same because their experience was different.

I'll put my time line here.

Early June I submitted my ROC app after 10 days my GC expired with a nicely put explanation letter, a week later a NOA was received followed by Biometrics. A week after the bio a RFE was received, asking for financial and residential and "anything that can support the application" which I prepared for almost 2 months and was sent back in early September. A week later a notice stating that my "application has been relocated to Los Angeles field office for processing" and "expect an interview appointment".

Since then? No updates, no appointment notices, nothing. I have called them a few times and all they say is just wait and no update was given.

The problem? Let's just say I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. What really bothers me is the "what ifs". However at the same time I'm baffled by the long delay as all the receipt/information/request were sent to me within a week after I sent them the corresponding items.

I'll wait till around end of January. I've talked to few ppl whom has done this and half of them got their approval within weeks and half of them waited for close to a year with N400 already submitted.

Bag of mixed experiences I guess. Maybe I should've bought that Mega Million ticket last week.

Hi everybody - quick question.

I submitted my I-751 a few weeks ago. GC expires early Feb.

What happens then from a work perspective? Am I still OK to work??? O_o

Yes, after they cash your check you will get an extension letter (your NOA1 :)) which extends your GC for another year and you are allowed to travel and work.

Always keep that letter with your GC.

BOTH of you, please STOP misinforming people.

You get your 1-year GC extension with your NOA-1. Which, in fact, makes your GC valid for another year. You can work, drive, travel, do whatever you please. If the extension expires and your ROC ain't approved yet, you can go to infopass and get a stamp for another extension.

So stop posting the wrong information here.

Wrong information? Excuse me but can you believe my I751 is STILL PROCESSING while I already took my oath for citizenship? In theory my I751 is going to be "forever" in this case. I had my NOA1 almost expired me on me and having to put on another I551 stamp.

Unless your I751 gets processed in a timely manner, or "within normal processing time of 6-9 months", otherwise it's considered "wrong" according to the officials and statistics.

Just because some of us does not fall in the statistical norm doesn't mean our time are wrong.

My point of the information I posted above was to tell them if their processing time falls out of the normal range, get proactive and seek help OR APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP (N-400). You gotta push USCIS. Heck look around you'll see bunch of ppl had multiple interviews, countless RFEs, this, that and finally after passport book full of I551 stamps they get a denial.

If you filed ROC in November you can join the ROC November Filers thread (Please look for it in the Forum Lists). You will be able to talk to people who are in the same position and filing period as you are. you may get some better answers to your questions. HOPE ALL GOES WELL.
