Hello all, I applied for N-400 about 6 months ago and then after my first interview, i was told that my case is in Supervisor review, I know we all know this process. Well I received a letter about four days ago that USCIS need proof of payment for the two traffic violations I had in NY back in 2009. I did paid the fine it was below $100 but i don't have the receipt. I just want to know if any one of you have this experience and had tried to get the proof of paid ticket in New York city (both tickets were issued in Manhattan). I have called courts, DMV and Traffic violation dept., in NYC and no help. If any one was able to get this in past please let me know how you got it, or if you know how to get it then plz plz plz let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Stepdaughter had that problem, but in smaller towns in Wisconsin, and during her mid-terms. Had to go to the court house where we paid the fines, said we, because, she was a minor at the time of her two small traffic violations. Since she was a minor, neither her mom nor me could get proof that we paid those fines, she had to show up in person. But were kind enough to print out the receipts so all she had to do was to pick them up.

But then we got a second letter where this proof was not necessary, and according to the instructions, these small fines do not have to be reported. The reason why we got that second letter was because I contacted our senators office, they straightened out St. Paul in a hurry. And with that second letter was her oat ceremony appointment.

If New York is like Wisconsin and if you didn't pay those fines, you would not have a drivers' license, and if it was in your car or the car you received those fines in, wouldn't have license plates either for that vehicle.

USCIS is going way out of bounds by demanding these receipts. May have to call your senators office like we did.

Its a racket anyway, surprised the Americans are not speaking up on this subject. Double our police force since 9/11 and each officer has to meet a quota of 20 tickets per month or lose his/her job. Most common ticket is rolling at a stop sign, your word against the officer that issues that ticket. City had to hire a judge to handle all these new fines. Another is driving 26 in a 25 mph zone. The law is like a plate of glass and when broken, its broke.

I wasn't there if my stepdaughter rolled that stop sign or not, but did teach her, have to do a lot more than come to a complete stop, like park your car at a stop sign, turn off the engine, put the parking brake on, then restart. Then you have the USCIS making a huge issue out of it, enough to drive a guy nuts.

Go to the traffic violations bureau and let them know you specifically want it for your citizenship you pay $10 for the letter and it takes a week.

Hello Ken,

Thanks for the reply, I called them, and they send me a plain letter which shows ticket numbers and calls out that they are paid and case now closed.

But it doesn't say the date and amount i payed.

Not sure if you got the record from Traffic violation office, but if you do got it, do you remember if it shows the amount and date of tickets.

Please reply, i will really appreciate any input.

Thanks
