Kobe Bryant could see his empire crumble as a result of his divorce from his wife Vanessa because there was no prenup involved in the marriage, meaning the Los Angeles Lakers star could lose millions of dollars. Bryant's $53 million in earnings this season makes him the second-highest paid athlete of the year, and his total worth is about $300 million according to Forbes. According to TMZ, Bryant's wife could take half of his worth.

Not having a prenup in his marriage will really cost Kobe, who has no one to blame but himself for the mess he is in.

TMZ has also reported that Vanessa believes Bryant has been unfaithful again following the 2003 incident in Colorado when the Lakers star was charged with sexual assault.

Will Bryant lose sponsorships and endorsements in the matter that golf superstar Tiger Woods did following his divorce after he cheated on his wife?Maybe, probably not to the same extent, but there will certainly be some companies who will wonder if Kobe is the right man to endorse their products.

Kobe's image will take a major hit following this divorce, and he will not be a role model that parents want their kids looking up to.

While Bryant's ability to make money off the court could remain pretty strong because of his relationship with Nike and other major companies, there is little doubt he will be affected by this divorce quite negatively from a financial perspective.

If his wife does get half of his fortune, that will still be over $100 million, and even to someone as wealthy as Bryant, that is a ton of money.

Bryant still has the ability to make much more money as an NBA player, and his current deal with the Lakers will pay him $79 million over the next three seasons.

However, the fact that Kobe's marriage did not have a prenup in it will result in the NBA icon's empire to take a major hit, and he will never be looked at the same way in the eyes of the public.

So tell me, after investing 10 years in a marriage that produced 2 beautiful children and dealing with countless affairs, Vanessa Bryant isn't entitled to half of his current assets?

And why does it need to be half? Would Vanessa be less wealthy with 25% or 30%?

Kobe is a buttwad and deserves everything coming his way. He should have gone to jail.

Granted he is an arrogant SOB, he will certainly pay dearly for foolishly getting married without a Pre-nup.

Now Shaq was one of the nicest people you will every meet. All the good stars left LAL because of Kobe. I don't know why they keep him, or why they pay him so much.

 I get what you're saying but even with a standard pre-nup she still would walk away with close to half because of the number of years they were married, the fact that they have two kids and no infidelity on her part has surfaced so far. Also, if I'm not mistaken, she was with him before they acquired the majority of their significant assets.

It's outdated to think that the breadwinner is the only one who makes any substantial contribution to a marriage just because he brings home the main or only income. The woman who stays home to bear children, raise them and takes care of her husband's needs is also making an immeasurable and priceless contribution to the household.

She still would be a wealthy woman with even 25% though...

Well, I am glad we can have an adult conversation about this.

I in no way discount her contribution as the woman that bore his children and that supported his jackarse all those years. So my thinking is in no way autodated with regards to this.

However, do not for one minute think Vanessa's role was one of a traditional wife, she did no cleaning, cooking, laundry, didn't sweep one floor, dust any tables or spray windex on one window. She had too many hired hands for that, she was basically a trophy wife. Her role was to look good, show up to games and media events.

With a prenup, he could have spelled out what she would get money wise based on what he was making at that time, and certainly they would have been free to revisit the issue of money as his earnings grow if they so desired to redo the agreement. Now, he hasn't a snowballs chance in hell to prevent from having his scalp removed.

These relationships with regards to finances are kind of like what bacon and eggs are to breakfast; the chicken made a mere contribution to breakfast and the hog was committed. She was committed to the marriage, but contributed little to the finances.

Yes she does deserve a portion, and she certainly will get a very large chunk since she was there for 10 years, which in California entitles her to alimony alone will amount to 'as long as she needs it or as long as Kobe can pay it.' With a prenup, they could have decided on a fixed amount and a determined number of years.

A classic case of why a prenup is/was needed.
