Hi Guys,

So I just started working and our company got a new client and I need to travel to Toronto every week. I have my conditional GC and my passport will be expiring soon. I will be traveling by air to Canada so can I enter with a GC and a expired passport? I'm going to apply for a new one but it just takes a lot of time and I was wondering if I can travel just with a GC and my expired pass or I need a valid passport?

When travelling by air you require a valid passport. If you are crossing at a land border you are good to go with the GC only, but take the expired passport with you. Best advice... until you get your new passport... is to fly to Buffalo then rent a vehicle and cross at the Peace Bridge. Since you are going to be a regular traveller to Canada you will also want to invest in a NEXUS pass. Quite honestly, the best thing since sliced bread. :)

OP- I wouldn't risk traveling with an expired passport personally. You don't want to give folks any reason to hassle you. That's just me. Best wishes..

Canadian land border officers won't hassle him. The GC is a valid entry document. Airports are a different story.

It actually works out cheaper expense-wise to fly to a US border city and rent a car to drive into Canada as well, at least if you are travelling to within several hours of the border. That is how I visit Canada all the time - don't fly into the country - just crossing the lake doubles the airfair!

As Krikit said, you will need a valid passport to fly into Canada but you just need your green card (and bring your expired passport for back up) to cross by a land border crossing. You will wish to renew your passport just so you have the added convenience of being able to fly directly into Canada.
