I do not know if there is a difference between AP of immigrants and non immigrant visas. I think it would be the same for all. Some people spend a very short time in AP while others spend months. I hope your AP time is short.

As far as I know they are checking documents and they could also be doing security checks. With Islamabad embassy it is very hard to tell what they are doing. I know there are more and more field investigations where they send someone out to talk to neighbors and friends to see if they know you are married.

A case that is in review can take take weeks or months for them to finish.

You can call DOS at 202-663-1225, press 1 then press 0. They will need your name, birth date and petitioner name and birth date. DOS will tell you correctly if your are still in AP.

Hello arslanyousuf DOS means the Department of State. The number I gave you is in the United States. I believe the country code is 1. They are closed today(Sunday) and Monday is a holiday. You can try them on Tuesday after 9:30 am American time.

Today I just called Department of State. He said our case is still under administrative processing on the embassy's part. I asked what does that mean, he said that embassy has to determine if my husband is eligible for the visa or not. Did anyone else hear this from DOS? Is that still just the first stage of AP and embassy didn't even put our case in security checks cray5ol.gif

USCIS I-130 Petition for Spouse

September 2012: Filed from abroad to Chicago Lockbox

4 days later: NOA1, Routed to California Service Center

7 days later: Transferred because of new jurisdiction

5 days later: Case Status changed to: Under processing at USCIS office

NOA2 arrived 78 days after NOA1 :)

*I-130 Approval Notice hardcopy finally received in Pakistan, the only notice that arrived.

What a coincidence, I just called DOS and got the same exact reply word to word.

I asked the person on the phone if its waiting on the U.S. side or Islamabad embassy part and he said it is with the embsssy and a decision is pending.

Hi carolynhotstuff, any luck with a positive reply from DOS today? I called and I was told its pending a decision and file is with the embassy. I wonder if that means anything good?

that's weird :( maybe that is the new thing they say to people instead of just AP pending. How long have you been waiting in AP?
