The embassy called my husband last week and asked for a copy of his original birth certificate. We sent that 3 years ago to NVC. We think they lost it and that's why they are asking for another one. It shows us they are working on our case and God willing will issue the visa soon.

Hello everybody. So here is the detail of what has happened regarding my wife's case recently. Anyone care to shed some light on it? thanks.

As I mentioned earlier, she had her interview in feb last year, was asked to send additional affidavit of support, which was sent by me in april last year. then on 1st may last yr embassy said the docs i had sent were received but case pending under AP and ever since then she is in AP.

now fast forward to this year. on feb 9th this year, she received a letter in postal mail for sending updated medical, latest police certificates, new photos, and ds230. She sent all this on feb 20th via American express karachi.

That entire month of feb even while embassy was waiting on docs, there were daily updates on her case, infact at times they were done from usa. since i used to check her status at around 8 or 9 pm pakistan time and there wouldnt be an update for that date, but after midnight and before dawn pakistan time, when i used to check there would be an update. so i knew that embassy would not be working on her case past midnight before 6 am so it had to be something being done in the U.S itself. like i said these updates happened almost everyday in feb even while she was busy gathering her documents to send. updates continued till around 27th of feb and then went silent. On 7th of march there was another update which i guessed as them receiving her documents and entering them or scanning them or processing them at the embassy etc.

So we saw an update after 27th feb on ceac wesbite on 7th march, and then we saw nothing. on 14th march, she sent an inquiry to the embassy via online system and her update date changed to 14th march. she received this reply from the embassy:

" Dear Sir/Madam,

We are pleased to inform you that our office has already received the below mentioned documents and those were forwarded to the consular officer who found those documents qualified but the case is still pending under administrative process and we will contact the applicant(s) upon completion of this process. Also, time duration for the process is always approximated therefore maximum cannot be predicted.

You may also check on the status of your case at https://ceac.state.gov/CEAC/

We hope that this information is helpful to you in responding to you client.

ever since she received this reply on 14th of march and her update date changed to that day, things have been silent. She has not heard a thing and her update date has not changed. I am puzzled as to what possibly could be going on? they say her documents were forwarded to consular officer who found them QUALIFIED but the case is still in AP? what does that mean? actually AP is such a vast term and a generic term with such a grey area that its difficult to tell what they mean by it and what exactly is going on with her case. if the documents have been received by the consular officer and found qualified as they said, then whats the delay all about? and since there are no updates now, then does that mean her case is not being worked upon and will sit like this for some time?

I know some people here like soccer player etc have sent medical and all 2-3 times when embassy requests yet they are not through with AP. then does that mean they are in name check? or what? and if so, then why does embassy request updated medical over and over till u r in AP? why dont they just wait till AP is over and once and for all ask for updated docs? its a hassle gathering these docs every year.

also, if her case is stuck in AP due to name check or background check etc, then what was being done on her case in u.s.a all of february as i mentioned? there were regular updates at night pakistan time meaning during day in usa almost everyday while they were waiting for docs from her? so i got excited that maybe there r getting done with their part of background check and name check etc while waiting for docs from her and as soon as they receive docs, they might issue the visa within a few weeks. but now its been almost 2 months since she sent her docs and there are also no updates which shows no work being done on her case.

I have not seen many IR1/CR1 cases of females in AP so far. She is unfortunately one of them. we also recently celebrated our second anniversary this month which puts us in line for a IR1 at port of entry which means that any doubts embassy etc have of paper marriage should become invalid now that they themselves consider a 2+ year marriage as permanent and not conditional greencard.

we had a love marriage and there are no red flags in her case as far as we r concerned. we met in pakistan. same age, same religion, she has visited the u.s on visitor visa 3 times earlier and never over stayed etc. has a great travel history for years to other countries. we both were never married before. the only flag i can think of is her last name prior to our marriage which was KHAN. that became her maiden name as now her passport and docs have the same last name as mine which really isnt very common or flagged.

one last thing, I have checked other cases around hers, some r still processing at nvc, some issued , while some r still in AP as well. some have updates of april, whereas most of them around her share the same update dates as hers, 7th march and 14th march which happen to be her update dates as well. hers were 7th march as well and then became 14th march we she made an inquiry. so could this mean they work on a certain type of cases during a specific week and then dont deal with them for some time?

i should also add that my congressman office makes inquiry once a month and even their office made an inquiry on same date as my wife on 14th march and received the same reply that case in AP and applicant will be contacted when AP complete. now its coming to almost a month and I may request them to make another inquiry this week but i dont think that really helps much.

carolynnhotstuff, do u see updates on ur husbands case from last week when embassy asked him for docs to indicate that they r working on the case? or if there were no udpates then it could mean that they do still work on a case and they system date doesnt change. all the people here who can comment, or share experience or correlate or comment on this, pls feel free to do so. thanks! i pray we all get out of AP soon.
