Folks, those of you waiting for months should contact your local congressman for assistance..i know from past experience they can help out especially if u are a registered voter and have history of voting for their party.. My visa for my aunt was.denied in pakistan, then I called and wrote to my congressmean and appealed and an official request to the embassy in lahore to expediate the visa and was approved. Pretty sure the could apply for k1 or spousal visa

I have our congressman working on it (has been since November) but unfortunately there isn't much they can do except make inquiries... they can't speed it up. Unless there is something we don't know about... how long ago was this?

2yrs ago. my aunt lives in Lahore, her initial petition for a US tourist visa rejected. She was 61yrs old, widow, and no reason to be rejected. So I emailed my congressman, and made the case for her visa. So, his office looked into the matter, called the Lahore Consulate and asked why was denied. They promptly called her back for another interview and it was granted. So, I guess i lucked out, but, really depends on who your congressman is, and how interested they are in helping you.

They can't really do much when it comes to security clearance/name check.

Our congressman is huge into our case but there is nothing they can do to speed up where we are since we are waiting on the name checks to complete... but in your case winning yes i can see where that would help. We aren't denied tho we are pending the finishing process of name checks... if only we could get to the end.

They can't really do much when it comes to security clearance/name check.

I have a question for the masses here, would mean a lot if someone can help me! (I'm the bloke who had his K1 interview in Islamabad just a week 'fore your hubby, EAbbas)

Got a call from the US Embassy in Islamabad today, and was told they are sending me my passport back since 'tis expiring on February 7th. But they told me to send them my new passport ASAP (with an emphasis on the ASAP mind you) and also send them my new medical after having it done, as the old one expired.

I hate to speculate but what I've read everywhere about AP tells me if they get in contact with you about your passport to either send it to them with your new medical exam or send it without the medical ninety percent of the time it means a case that's been processed and approved. Also it makes me wonder since they require six months validity on your passport, why did they not get in contact with me in August (when the passport ran out of such validity officially) and are contacting me now rather when it has less than a couple weeks. Is it chance, or should I afford a little happiness on mine and the lovely's part? So what should I expect here... is the processing complete on my case, the reason why they are asking me to send these two things to them as soon as I receive me old passport?

Suffice to say I've been a bit shaky ever since the morn, would love any and all input I can get... thanks!

My husband requested his passport back because he wanted to move to Dubai with me for a little bit while in AP so we could live together safely. Well we got an email back saying that they could not send his passport back because we are in AP and we will be notified in a few months our case status. I took this as a good sign that they won't return the passport--because they probably still need it! A few months ago I submitted more evidence so this could be why. I think it is a great sign that they are asking for your medical and return of your passport asap! Keep us updated please!

Any updates over the weekend? As for us it was still pending on Friday... feeling a bit hopeless... trying to keep my positive attitude as we are in normal processing but really how normal is it to take over 6 months to finish the case? All we want is to be a family in the same house and live our lives.

If you have any updates or news please share with us!

That is awful indeed. When I returned back to Pakistan from UK I also thought about getting a temporary job abroad in Dubai (never realized for once I'd get put in AP, oh how naive we were) but thought it'd be best to wait as we'll get it sooner or later. I think for now 'tis best to stay patient and keep your head up, its easier said than done I know but I know for a fact this'll get sorted for you very soon. The trick is to keep yourself busy! (I worked on a novel, it sucks but hey it kinda helped since my lovely is better at creative writing than I am!).

Update:

I got a call from Speedex (AMEX's satellite office in Quetta) to come pick me passport up today. There was no letter with it, just the passport itself which I found a bit odd, but since we have only one guy who handles everything here he told me 'tis not the first he's seen something like that. I asked him if it was good news I've been told to renew me passport and he said it was, I also asked him why does the embassy keeps insisting the status is still AP he told me 'tis 'cause they really can't say anything else... and the process is now subject to me new medical exam (since they asked me for it specifically). He also told me in his experience the only cases where the applicant gets contacted in regards to their passports, ect. are the ones where they've finally touched base and are about to approve them (he similarly told me how the embassy normally doesn't send passports back even if you ask for them, as it was in Sabian's case unless they are ready to go ahead with them).

I also called State Dept. this past Friday and was told it's good news the embassy's called me to renew the passport (I know I sound obsessed with making sure I'm at the very end of this rope, so bear with me) so I'm hoping for the best. I'm travelling to Karachi tomorrow and got me new medical appointment the day after, once I'm back I'll get the passport renewed and send it back to the embassy.

Just hang in there, folks... it's all about to come through!
