Hi All,I would like your thoughts on the current situation. I met my fiance on a business trip to Thailand that got extended when I broke my arm in the first few days and decided to spend my sick leave there instead of coming home. We spent a lot of time together over that thirty days and stay in almost constant contact every day (Vonage Phone Service is Great). The separation was hard for both of us and we decided that we wanted to get married. I was anxious to file for the fiance visa and immediately booked a trip back to Thailand the end of February staying through April 6, 2012.

The flooding in Thailand kept her from getting to talk to her family, that live in the North, about the two of us getting married and her coming to the States, which she wanted to do before we filed for the Visa. Respecting her wishes, I did not file any paper work and was waiting for her to talk this over with them. The question is: Now that it is getting closer for me to head over there (69 days and counting), would it not make more sense to just take everything with me and hand deliver it to the Embassy in Bangkok? We will be in and out of Bangkok several times while I am there anyway. This would also give me a chance to look over all of her paper work prior to her being ask to send anything in. Your thoughts are welcome and appreciated. Thanks

You can't hand deliver it to the Bangkok Embassy. Your petition is processed in the USA. Then it goes to the National Visa Center, and they send in on to Bangkok.

By all means keep all of your trip receipts, and get plenty of pics. You can look over what you both need, but you have to file from the USA>

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

While you are there you can get her signature on some docs you will need. Also take pics that have some of her family in them as well. Keep records of the two of you being physically present. All this will support your relationship as bona fide and will be beneficial when you get back home to file. She needs to sign a letter of intent and also a couple of other forms, you can take them with you...best of luck to you.

Thanks to those that replied, I was not sure but thought that I might have to file here. Than the best thing to do since I will be there a good stay, is to get it all together and mail it from there back to the States. I hate to wait till I get back home if mailing it from there could start the process a little sooner. My hope was to be able to have her come here before winter sets in. The Ohio valley winters can be brutal sometimes. Thanks Again......

As I read this I am uncertian if you intend to marry in Thailand while you are there. In one part you speak of a K 1 but later make refrence to being married there. Whatever you do she wont have to worry about the winter this year. Either visa will take many months. Six months to get thru USCIS alone. Then 1 to 3 months with NVC. About 2 to 3 to get the interview date in BKK.

Use the guides above to see what has to be done to petition for each visa. See the timelines here on V J for Thai cases.

Begin to look into what you have to do to marry in Thailand. There are different ways to do it. Please read up on our culture to understand what may be asked of you. Then temper that with what you feel is reasonable & possible.

I am going to send you some info via P M later that I think will help you.

Our plans would be to file for fiance visa and get married in the states once that is approved. If I total up the months that you mention each process will take, it comes up to between nine months and one year. Is that correct? I wasn't concerned about this winter, I was just in hopes that she might be able to come here before next winter.

Since you intend to file an I-129F for the K1, 7-10 months is a reasonable estimate from the time the paperwork is submitted to the time an interview will take place.

Posted estimated processing times by USCIS is 5 months from filing to adjudication decision

After USCIS approves the petition, it is sent to the NVC

For a K visa petition, the NVC is only a mail stop, all they will do is assign a case number and then send it to the Embassy. (Note: despite what some operators say or what the NOA2 says, no files go directly to an Embassy or Consulate from a USCIS service center, files always go via the NVC)

Transit time to the Embassy can vary.

Interview scheduling for K visas is Embassy specific, you will require Bangkok specific answers as to how K visa interviews are scheduled there.

Take your time filing. Once it is the mail, errors in judgements about the right mix of proof sent and all the way down to the boxes on the forms that require "N/A" or "None" can drive you crazy. I am one of the most detailed people and I was so exhausted from filing it out that I wish I had put "N/A" in the Alien number box instead of sending it in blank. I probably won't get an RFE but these are the problems with rushing it in.

Compare your forms you send it with the ones on-line. Also, carefully choose your emails and documents you send. When you are filing the I-129F.. you are trying to prove that you met however these same documents will be passed on and read by someone to determine if you have a legitamite relationship so you need to choose them carefully.
